My rule of thumb is, the longer you want the chain to last, the better quality chain you buy up front. If you are racing, you will buy quality chains way more than the normal recreational rider. I have access to free chain, so a little maintenance in the way of cleaning and some oiling and the cheap stuff works good for me and I just change the chain as often as I need to. A quality, meaning expensive chain will last longer, but no chain is meant to be left outside in the rain and elements all the time, so let that weigh in towards the kind of chain you buy. If you drive through lots of deep water, an o-ring chain won't help you much either. The best advice for a cahin is, no matter what you buy, occasional cleaning with a plastic bristled brush and regular oiling with chain lube or lite machne oil will go along way to give your chain a long and healthy life.

I put a DID O-ring chain that is going on my 200x build. I figured the money up front should help me out when it's getting beat through the woods.

I had run DID professional chains in the past. 7700 pound tensile strength. I did some shopping around a while back and found that the Primary Drive chains from rocky Mountain atv have a tensile strength of 8800 pounds. (less stretching) In the local cycle shop, Did chains (non-O-ring) sell for 80.00, at RMATV they sell for 35.00. Oring chain at the shop runs 115.00 and RMATV has them for 45.00. I have never had an issue with any 520 chain I purchased from them.

I highly recommend them for chain. I will only buy chains from them now.

I run a Renthal Supercross chain on my R. They don't make that chain anymore but when its time for my next one I'm going with either a Renthal R1 Works or R4 ATV chain. If two chains are made from the same materials and one is O-ring and one isn't , the NON O-ring one will be stronger. The main benefit of an O-ring chain is that it keeps the dirt and grime out of the pins. My R only sees the ice and once every few years it sees the dunes in Michigan so an O-ring is unnecessary and actually uses more power to turn.

My X goes in mud and woods every time I use it so I run an X-ring on that.

Remember, a good chain and sprocket set up is way cheaper than fixing a hole in your case. Besides, you'll get so much more life out of a good chain that it ends up being cheaper than buying a couple of cheap ones when you add in the cost of buying new sprockets twice.

O-ring of ebay here too, along with both sprockets (make sure you replace those as well with your chain), no problems yet...but I don't abuse it very much on my flat bushy property!
