got me an 82 ATC 250R , need some opinions

i just traded my sweet 84 200X for a 1982 ATC 250R and would like to hear some pros/cons about it.. its pretty much stock with nothing aftermarked except the DG boost bottle.. i am thinking of doing some restoration work on it , is it worth it???
would like to know your opinions..
    thank you.

I love my 82Rs.... you can find some sweet aftermarket products for them! As wierd as it sounds, you got to be a better rider IMO to run the 1st gen R, than my 350X. It's like running a 110 on crack.

Its ironic you got a DG boost on yours. Been looking for one for my 300R. I got an old Pro-Tec aluminum intake with the boost bottle line on it. They say a blaster bottle is about the same size, but can't bare to put a yammie part on a Honda!

Another site that just started up might interest you. www.s.com It has a forums and such too.

Anyhow.... I'm sure you'll enjoy the R. Welcome to the boards and post up some pics!

i dint know that boost bottles were used in these things, i used to race 1/8 scale RC buggies and boost bottles did wonders on low RPM torque on .21 engines but is there any diference in running these on these larger 2 stroke engines?? i was surprised to see one in the trike, reminded me of my racing days LOL!!

i am doing some work on the 250R rihgt now but will post pics as soon as its complete..

Congrats on getting a first Generation !!

As Bruce said, you'll find alot of information and like-minded addicts over at www.s.com

Umm - just a few quick tips if you are not going for a factory restore - aftermarket pipe and a 34mm carb will add GOBS of usable power. When I slapped a Bassani, Boyesoen Reeds, 34mm PJ & an open element airfilter to my 82 it was like a night and day difference!

Also, adding 300ex or 400ex hubs will net you a few inches of width out back for more stability.

Up front, if you ever wanna ditch the super wide knobby tire you can easily bolt on a 200x front end. (200x rear axles also work out back with the stock 82 swingarm - I'm running one now)

Anyways - hope to see you and your trike over at s.com soon! Again, congrats on owning a first generation 250R - no matter what anyone says - we're a special breed of crazy!

Well, got me 2 more 250R's .. i traded my last 200X for them.. they are a bit rought but i think it was definetly worth the trade.. the guy gave me 2 83 R's with fuel tanks, rear ends, front ends, one with tires and wheels, both engines still on the trikes with the top end removed but included, and he even gave me an extra complete 1st. gen engine ,a couple of extra jugs ,extra heads, and more..
i wonder if it was worth the trade????? one is complete just needs a new top-end, the other one is just the frame with engine ,handlebars, fuel tank , complete front and rear end ,..,no seat , no plastics ,no tires or ignition coil..

was it woth trading for a 200X with extras???

oh and he also gave me some extra reeds, a mikuni carb , 2 OEM exhaust systems, and a few odds and ends..

hey would you be willing to sell a thumb throttle off one of your bikes I just got a 82. That is bored and is ported and polished with a aftermarket carb and just can't get used to the twist throttle. Do you have any pics of the first bike?
