I would do it, My 250r has a stock plastic tank. Really nice for the inside of the tank not to rust out on you. The weight doesn't hurt anything either.
I would do it.

I have had one on my 85 Big red for going on 4 years - no problems whatsoever - great tank - good alternative for old rusty metal ones.
RIP - Yamahondaman!! You will never be forgotten!
RIP - Sam Brehm!! Gone but NEVER forgotten!
RIP - Sandpuppi101 - You will live on in my mind - I miss you friend!
This tank says it will work for 250SX - do you think it will work ok for a 1985 Big Red 250ES? I think the 250SX and Big Red tanks are close? This tank is 60.00 cheaper than another plastic tank specifically for Big Red 250ES I saw on Ebay.
As far as big red to 250SX not sure of the compatibility--where the fenders meet the tank???, I'd venture to say the backbone is probably the same for the 2 trikes---they do look very similar though mabey someone else has experience with the compatiblity. I'd go plastic if you can't find a metal one!
A new post is up parting a Big red, check it.

I had a Clarke plastic tank on my first 85 Big Red. I loved it. Never rusts, wont dent, wont leak through, and way easier to see how much gas is left, and is 1000x easier to clean out then a metal one. However, you cant beat the look and feel of an OEM metal tank!!

does any one know if they make a plastic tank for an 84 250r?
