I had 2. I found they had more balls that the honda 200e.Yes they wee a wheelie manchine but it wasnt alot of fun to tow wood with.I really liked them though but i found them a little skinner and high than the Honda making it a little mre tipsy at higher speeds.

I've got a 1984 YFM200, which is the first year 4-wheeler from Yamaha......electric and recoil start, front drum/rear disc brakes, shaft drive, and no suspension (yup, its solid).

this has the 5spd autoclutch with reverse, and I've found it geared real low in 1st through 3rd. It pulls real well and is a pretty good li'l workhorse. Don't know how close this is to your trike, but I hope it helps.

josh, i think they made them in both chain and shaft. im not sure but i think the shaft drive 1 has reverse. shaft i think will also have both elec and pull. i dont know what the chain drive 1 has ( start or rev). a good friend of mine had 1 and it was okay. no rear suspension always sucks though. i personally think they look kind of goofy but probably a good beat around machine.

If it's an '84 or older it won't have reverse. I had one back in '85 that was an '85(designated YTM200ERN) that was the first year of reverse.

    Sidenote:
The one I had came to me with a chrome Kerker exhaust and an aftermarket cam in it. With the racks removed and stock tires on it, I outran my buddy's '85 200X(Sand Scorcher exhaust/stock geared/stock tires) on top speed runs-flat ground. We raced over a 1/4 mile about 8-10 times that day because none of us could believe it. I won every race against him that day.

He would lead by a bike length or two until nearly to the top of 5th gear, then I passed and steadily pulled away from him.

I had the shaft drive ones which had reverse.I dont think that the chain had reverse. With all the ones around here they were infamous for the crown gear going in the rearend of the shaft drives although i never had any trouble.

not to hijack...yamada, my french is a lil rusty, three years without speaking now... but did I gather than you used 225 parts for the 200e

ps...."j'ai appris a conduire sur ce trois-roues" that is one sentence that everyone should be able to translate

Was'nt the shaft drive '85 YTM 200E ,known as the Yamahauler ,like the Big Red or was that just a nick name ..Also on replacing 200 and 225 part's,I redid a buddies head on his moto-4 200 and ended up using a head off of a 225.The only differance was the compression release was differant,if I'm remembering correctly.

Yes the 200E and 200ERN were the "Yamahauler" just the the "Big Red" nick name. The 225 and 200 share some parts but not as many as you would think so be careful. Heads do interchange, the compression release valve covers also interchange so you can keep the same lever if you want. It was the YTM200 chain drive that cam with the auto decompression (hooked to the pull starter), the others have a manual lever on the head.

I like the Yamaha's as well, there are a number of nice features (compared to Honda), the main thing is making sure you stay up on the maintenance (adjust the valves, change the oil and filter, change the differential oil, to name a few). The Yami's feel lighter so they are easier to move around then say the Honda 200E, 200M and 200ES.
