Anyone know anything about a 97 Kodiak 400?

    I picked up a 97 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4wd,dirt cheap.Couldnt resist.
The front drive shaft is broken.

Any pros or cons to this thing?
Any good info websites for them?

Runs great looks good, new tires, just appears to be a broken driveshaft as of now.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the link doggy...
I have been reading on them a little today, and everyone has good things to say.

I pulled the front driveshaft out tonight, and it was mangled.I am going to have to replace the front input yoke, and both U-joints.
    It also needs a battery.
It has 3400 miles on it,and some old man bought it new, used it for deer hunting.
It sat in the barn for about 6 years.
It came with a plow kit.It has newer sabertooth tires on it.
It runs mint,no smoke.I am just going to do some fixing up,and use this beast for knarly winter mud riding, plowing, and pulling trees out,of the woods....600 bucks..........That is what I payed for it.All he wanted was enough for it,to buy a new chainsaw.....kinda just fell in my lap,and I had to buy it.!

    Whoo Whoo!

    Any other input?
I will try to get some pics up this week.

Well,I kind of suspected the driveshaft will be a issue. The angles they offset it at form the factory, are rediculous.
I dont plan on ing on this thing, just using it for work detail and winter muddy riding. So I hope it will hold up for me.

Any reason you dont like the full time 4wd?
Does it make it hard to steer or what?

It doesn't get good gas millage in 4 wheel drive. It depends on what kind of diffs you have. If it real 4 wheel drive ,the turning radius will be hurt.

it tends to push when ridden even remotly agressively and when the front wheels start spinnign it will almost rip the bars out of your hands when it throws power from one wheel to the other

lol You rode it like a sport machine and expected it to perform? Not a chance.

My uncle had one at the same time the ol man had a 99 Kodiak. Both were/are great machines. The lowrange is great when towing. Its a decent trail cruiser/exploring quad. Technical, rough trails is where the quad will shine, its made to go slow. Top speed is only like 80kph. It is a reliable quad. Don't expect it to be near the caliber the new independantly sprung 500 plus class machines are, it just isn't that type of machine.

Bump on this for some progress.
I got a new battery in it.Cleaned it up and fine tuned some things.I am still looking for the front driveshaft parts I need to fix it.But it is rideable now.
My utility experience is nill, and I have to admit,i love this thing. It is a tank.
    Electric start,plenty of working power.....
    Finally got some pics.
Not to shabby for what we paid for it,and with a plow!
