Theres an easier alternative to the "aftermarket front end" idea. You can use the tripple trees from a yamaha tri moto 200, and use some front forks from a yamaha YZ 80 between the years 79-82. The tripple should mount perfectly. You have to sag the fork tubes up higher, so they stick out of the top of the tripple a few inches. The forks would be great, and have much more travel and stiffness then the original 175 forks. I have always wanted to try it, but never got the forks to do it. It WILL work.
    THE 80's RAGE! Currently owns:
    81, 85 Yamaha Tri Moto 125
    83 Yamaha Tri Moto 200 x2
82,83 Yamaha Tri Moto 175 project
    85 Yamaha Tri Z 250
    84 Kawasaki Tecate 250
    84 Honda ATC 70
    85 Honda ATC 350X
    84 Honda ATC 250R
    (2) 84 Honda ATC 200x
    82, 83 Honda ATC 185s
    81 ATC 200
Lots of other parts and bikes

Ahead of you there. I have a set of triples and forks from a ytm 200. Measure between the triples of the 200 and the triples of the 175. They are way different. The only way to make it work would be to remove the neck from the 175 triples and fab it onto the 200 ones. As far as fork go, the 200 forks work fine, and you dont even have to enlarge the axle hole. Not as much travel as the 80 forks though.

Well, I had purchased a ytm200 front end from a board member. Like the tecate kid says, the necks will have to be switched. Also it looks like I might gusset the lower part of the forks where the axle is held. I did get to help the great gazoo work on his yt125 sunday and we got his clutch problem fixed. We used the clutch steels from an extra yt175 clutch assembly I had and when we buttoned it back up, no more clutch slipping. I need to get another yt175 lower triple tree so I can pirate the stem out of it. Also in my box of goodies, I have the air fork caps, so they should fit the ytm200 fork tubes.

I got your 175 front end and a whole extra engine as well veal. You know there yours for a song just need to get together for lunch again! haha.

Now if I could just find a seat for my 125. actually, you don't have any crank bearings/seals for 125 do you? I think thats what my 125 needs.

Sorry Lou, no internals. I don't know if you have a seat to work with. I do have a base I was restoring and a nos seatcover and a so-so seat foam. If you have a great seat foam I can hook you up.

Hey Louis, Bike bandit still list them for sale but I don't know if they actually have them because sometimes after you order you find out they no longer have the parts. Have you tried the local Yamaha dealer to see if they can order the seals for you? They put those 125 based 2 stroke engines in a lot of dirt bikes like the IT, DT and MX so it can't be that hard to track down the seals and bearings for your engine. Just my 2 cents

And boy does the thing RIP! I'm really shocked at the power this 125 puts out. Now I need to address the shifting issue, and of course, I'm going to put my 175 top end on the 125 trans & transfer it to the 175 frame. I hoping a certain someone "cough, cough" holds on to a couple few parts to make my 175 ALMOST as cool as his

We have to get together to swap some parts man! I have a very decent foam, just no pan. Not too worried about the seat cover, I'll make my own.

I know I can get the bearings and seals from yamaha, just figured I'd see if anyone was sitting on some they didn't need and wanted to move. That one along with my YTM225dx is a looonnnggg term back burner project.

Well, I can let you have my pan. I had to weld 2 cracks and put in a new stud/bolt, but all seems well. I wire wheeled and rust treated and krylon painted the top of the seat pan, but I have not done the underside yet. All of the little cleats are still there as well. If you don't want the cover I guess that will go to the tecate kid then. I still have some other nos stuff to let go as well. I have a nos metal dash and the nos headlight shroud. I have an extra set of wide nos footpegs. I have 3 fork boots too, but I'm not sure if they can work on the ytm200 front end or not. I have an extra nos tail light base and an extra grab bar as well, but it seems like the tail light mounting holes are a little close together on it???

Brian, you need to see what you have for the 175 shifter assembly and then see what you need. The big thing is wether or not the 175 piece will fit on the 125 shifter shaft. I'm pretty sure it will though. And you need to figure out what you are going to do for a frame. And we need to get this puppy started. You will need to use the 175 bearing carrier and axle though, as the earlier carrier will not work with the kit. We can weld up your 1980 frame, but not quite sure if we can get the holes perfectly lined up or not. Quit dragging your feet and get moving. I need to make some room here. And get some things done to my trikes as well. Looks like I"m going to be putting the rd350 back together to sell also. That should be a little adventure.
