Unhappy gas prices are making you do?.......

    what?

for me Im selling my 2000 interceptor, gas prices have finnally hit $3.50 a gall here in GA, and im loosing profits. This is what has happened to my work..... Headquarters gave us permission to charge additional mileage to help recoup our gas costs on traveling (we pay for our own gas). So my office started charging the additional miles ok right?.....well some of the insurance companies are canceling the claims stating that they wont pay for the addtional mileage! So.....I loose work, last week I stayed home a whole day with NOTHING to do....

MY business is commision based, and when I stay home.....im not making money, and this piss's me off. People wreck cars all the time and there isnt a reason for me to stay home! but the gas prices have trickled all the way down into the insurance segment and my livelyhood. So what to do? im selling my CV for one I can handle gas costs up to $3.35 but nothing more, it gets great mileage but even so, I need something that gets better, and possibly take back some of the additional mileage and get my files back, and not loose any more money.

When im out riding through the country often times 40-50 miles from the nearest town, I wounder how do these people that live out here actually live? (not big mansions) but small blue collar workers..... how can you afford a house on $25k-$30k and have to drive 100+ miles every day to and from work. On top of that they only have a vehicle they can afford to buy....say a 1992 chevy 1500 v8 so....gas mileage from 7-18 100+ miles a day.....15 gallon tank or so.... you do the math, they dont make that much after just paying for gas.....how do people expect to live?

I live 5 miles from the nearest gas pump, that is regularly 5 cent more than any where else, im 35 miles from a SAMs club gas station wich is the lowest around, I frequently put 125-275 miles on my car A DAY. Remember I pay for my own gas....last week I hate to say I made one of my worst checks in 3 years with this company, after figuring my gas usage for what I brought home..... I coul dhave worked at mcdonalds for a week and made more....... SO in a last ditch effort to gain back my work load im selling my CV for something a bit more economical, and telling my office to take back the mileage on some files so I can regain the work.

So how are you doing it? How are you making it with these high gas prices? are you killing credit cards on gas? What are some of you guys doing to keep your ahead above certain debt just to live?

I spent $375 last month in gas AND thats with me and the wife car pooling to work every day, 2 years ago when she started her job we were spending $250 a month. I can't get rid of my truck and I'm working on my house and no way i could fit a 2x12 board into a volkwagon rabbit, but I'm looking for something a little more gas friendly. My truck is pretty good on gas, about 23-25 mpg with the bed cover on.

Cost me $80.20 to fill my Tundra the other day. When I went in to pay the lady almost started to cry when she said how much it was...she started to rant about the prices and how she doesnt know how people can live. It is sad, I prob make 3 times as much a hour that the lady at the station does and I cant stand it so I dont know how someone working for minimum or a little more and has a family can make it.

I saw a report the other day where the head of OPEC said that gas prices do not change much due to supply and demand which proves that the price of gas has no limit. People need the gas and the big gas executives need more money so the prices just keep going.

Im not too sure that any of the future presidents will be able to help with the prices of gas. Everyone says they can help but I dont know if there is any help in the near future. Its a shame that OPEC can cripple such a dominate country (or so we think we are) like the USA.

I drive 90 miles per day for work. Lucky thing is I normally only work 4 days per week. Last week I spent $50 for 4 days. I was drivign my 1 ton dually and it cost me about $150 per week and that was in January when fuel cost was lower. My $950 work car paid for its intial cost in 10 weeks.

We live in a small town with virtually no shopping. We no longer just run over to the next town (20 miles) for no reason like we use too. I'm sure this will cause me to have 1 less dune trip this season. I also run my own heavy equipment repair business (part time) I will probably raise my rates $10 per hour.

If your car is paid for it is still cheaper to drive it, then to trade it off for a good mileage car and get a payment.

well, gas prices caused me to lose a girlfriend of a year.........couldnt go see her for a month because i was between work doing everything i could just to stay insured. granted, i prolly didnt talk to her as much as i should have (maybe twice a week).

also sucks meeting new people, hangin out with old friends.....cant drive out to hang, and when i can, i dont got money for the simple things in like that the girls like, such as a movies trip, or hell even a slush after a walk through the park......

Theres this girl that we have had a thing for about 5 years now, and just when there is a good chance we could hook up, i cant drive out and see her a whole lot.....and shes not even that far away from me and its STILL an issue when its almost 4 dollars for a round trip.

i used to just drive around with another buddy, just cruise around, screw around, and whatever. gas was 1.70 a gallon. now, i cant afford to drive my damn 3 wheeler!

I'm seriously considering buying a cheap motorcycle. I have short commute to work but even so it just feels stupid to drive the gas guzzler when I'm just going a few miles down the road.

i live 30 miles from school...and get 20ish mpg. I typically fill up 3 times a week for 35-40 bucks or so. today I filled up twice in one day.

It won't be long before I have to get an apartment on campus and pay 700 a month to SAVE money.

I've been busing and riding my peddle bike to work and around town to friends and well... to grocery stores I ride my bike with a sled to carry them.

Saved 2,278.38 so far since July. It all goes into a fund. Plus what are we going to do in 34yrs when the last of gas is used up?

    $3.60 Per. Gal.

Gas on Long Island ,NY is $3.60 a gallon I am lucky I have a company car that I take home and a gas card, But I"m not going to Trikefest this year it cost a few Hundred last year and that was killer , by the time June rolls around gas will be $4.00 plus at 1500 miles forget it.

We cancelled a camping trip dude to the higher cost of fuel, we plan and save well in advance for trips/vacations instead of "winging it" like we used to, and cut back on going out for pizza/chinese/etc.

We had planned to go to Sandbridge in VA and haul the camper. We get ~20MPG without hauling and 8MPG with the camper. On an 800 mile round trip...we would have spent $350 (or more if gas increases by June) to haul the camper. We figured that we'd save about $200 to NOT take the camper.

So, instead we're taking the $200 difference and putting it toward a condo in Myrtle Beach. We have a couple other camping trips planned (can't wait to see what that'll cost in August) so we'll still get to use the new camper.

Not much we can do to "save" on gas spending. We both work 30 miles from home and need vehicles that have room for 3 kids comfortably. I'm not packing the 3 kids in a sardine can to save fuel, especially after seeing the carnage of rear-end collision to my Intrepid.

I've actually decided to keep my current car (which I can't stand anymore) rather then trading it in on a Jeep that I really want just because the car gets 12mpg better.
