got my yz 80 now got a few questions.?

hi i bought the yz80 for 50 bucks its a roller and only missing the engine and exhaust, so it seems like the frame is a decent size and will take a pretty big engine, what other engines can i fit in here? maybe yz125? thanks tim.

    First off, Suzuki didn't make the YZ80, it's a Yammi. If it's a Suzuki, it's an RM80.

Secondly, you can probably get engines for it on Ebay for pretty cheap.

If you have the welding skills and material, you can make ANYTHING fit. I've seen a KX85 with a KX500 motor in it, talk about scary!

I think a YZ125 motor would be nice, but this YZ80 you have is probably vintage and meant for an air-cooled engine. I would try to find a vintage 80 motor for it before dropping in anything else. If not, check to see if a YZ125 from the same approximate age would drop in with minimal mods, that might be easy to do.

um see the thing is its not air cooled its got a radiator, but i checked the years on bikepics.com and the only year that i saw on there that was black and yellow was the 83, now im not sure becasue i havent looked at the bike id plate yet, but on bikes pics the 83 had a ratiator to.

Ohh, ok. I don't know if the 80 radiator would be enough to keep a 125 cool. If the 83 was some kind of one-off single-year engine, it might be hard to get one like it...

yeah i kno im still looking for a 80 engine tho the 125 was just a thought i mean the 83 and up years had radiators so maybe i can get a knew engine. if not ill keep my eyes peeled for a oraginal motor. im in no rush to get an engine as i am doing another project right now, just wanna do alittle info casue im bored, but yeah if i go with the 125 i might get a 125 ratiator casue they are about the same size i think if not ill see if it fits. thanks tim.

i believe it is 83-92 were very similar. Not to sure if its on the engine parts aswell but i dont see why you cant make a newer engine fit. If you have the welding skills and materials, maybe you could find a aircooled 4 stroker and stuff it in there, or go on ebay for a motor.

Another thing you have to think about with putting a 125 into the 80 chassis is the chain size. The 80 uses 428, while 125's use 520. You'll have to get conversion sprockets made up.

We'll have to see about your RS250/200 build, but I think you'll have fun sticking an engine into this little thing. I had a 2001 YZ80 this summer, and it was so much fun to rag on, I kinda regret selling it.
