    help?

Hey guys, I have a problem with the 86 tecate. It was running so so with the stock carb but not really how I wanted it to, so I put a 36 on it. I went to start it and all of the sudden I have no spark. Tried several plugs, checked the ground and still nothing. I tool the stator cover off and it is very rusty under there. Is this the problem? If so, can I clean the stator? How do I get it off (or where do I get a puller for it)? Where can I get another stator? or am I going down the wrong track and is there something easier to do first?

Check e-bay for a puller, i know i got one for my 250r on there but i dunno if they have any for that. Take it all apart and clean it good, should be the end of your problem. I would also put your stock carb on for now and make sure that was the problem, although im pretty sure it is. Its funny you should mention that because a friend of mine just bought a kxt and it had the same problem, only he had half a quart of water behind his cover. Its up to you, but i think drilling a small (eighth inch) hole on the bottom of the cover will let out any condensation or water seepage out. Downside is water can get in, but this is what i do to all my trikes now and i dont have any problems with corrosion anymore.

if it ran fine before the new carb was put on and then suddenly lost it's spark after the new carb was put on, i would think that you disturbed the wiring harness in some way to cause this problem. i'm thinking that you have a wire with it's insulation rubbed through for the ignition circuit, it is now contacting your frame and completing it's loop that way instead of through the plug. check all your stator leg leads individually to ground, i bet one will show continuity and there's you problem.
