    atc 200e shift pattern

    Just what the title says: what is the shifting pattern of the 1983 200e? and also does putting it in high or low through the subtransmission affect that?

    Shifting pattern is N-1-2-3-4-5 (neutral being at the top, you will push the lever down to put it in gear) The Hi in the transmission is normal gearing for everyday riding, and Lo is mainly for a super low first gear (great for pulling or hillclimbs), but you can go thru all the gears still, it will just be a little slower and have more pulling power.

    So on mine when I finally got the thing running, I pushed down and it went into gear, but then when I tried to shift (either up or down) it went into neutral. Now that i turned it off, when i do not think the bike was in neutral (stupid), the starter wont turn over anymore (pullstart is broken, working on fixing). I am thinking that I cannot get it in neutral anymore, and I did not put the neutral indicator back on, so I am screwed there.

    Any tips as to why it wouldnt shift out of first? and also any tips on getting it back into neutral (i have tried to start in every posisition i can shift it in to) or if thats not even my problem????????

    Try rocking the bike back and forth while trying to shift. This can help sometimes.

    It also sounds like you had the motor apart? Did you take off the clutch cover, and remove the shifter lever? On the end of the lever there is a triangle piece, with 3 balls in it. It is possible that it is turned around (it is directional). I had this happen when I put my 200 back together, it shifted into gear then it wouldnt do anything else.

    When it shifts, does it click into gear normally, or is it stiff, loose, or feel different in any way?

    What I did was replace the front sprocket so I had the left case and subtrans off, and shift lever. And when i shift , starting from the highest posisition i can get it in, I shift down and it feels normal, like it is going into gear or changing gear then does one more (I think, I have to check) and then when I push down it does not go anymore, like it does when you reach 5th gear and cannot shift anymore.

    Oh yea and I think that no matter what posisition i shift the lever to, i can move the wheels freely, not being stopped by the engine

    i think my trike(i have the exact same 83' 200E) and it had somesort of problems like this .. and somehow my dad fixed it :S

    Did you ever take the ride side clutch cover off any make sure everything was put together right?

    Also make sure that the Hi Lo shift lever is in position and not in between gears, sometimes it can feel like it is locked in either Hi or Lo and the lever still has a bit to go before it is.

    I myself never took the right side apart, not sure about the previous owner...but the second option sounds more likely, as I had it started with the lever off, but then I put the lever on (without the little cotter pin thing cause i lost it) so it can be between hi or lo.

    Did you ever figure out the problem I have the same issue with my 1982 200e I changed the front sprocket and now my shifter won't shift at all
