Help-Engine seized Honda 250r

Hello everyone!

The engine on my 83 250r seized and I would like information as to see if the porcedures to rebuild the engine is the same. I do have the repair manual but I do not know as to how remove the cylinder on a seized engine. I did a search but did not find anything about seized engine-piston removal. I am handy with tools but I have never worked on motorcycles before. I am considering removing the engine myself and have the dealer to take measures and to determine what needs to be replace (If I accomplish succesfully the removal).

I'd appreciate all the information sent to me.

oooooo man dont take it to a stealer they will probably tell you to buy a new engine. when i seized my sled engines i took the head off put some oil or wd-40 on the top of the piston (about 1/4 of an inch deep) then i got a piece of 2x2 foot or so long block of wood then placed it in the middle of the piston and knocked it down slowly and gently with a big .


there are many people that do it many ways. but thats just how i did it with my sleds. i hope i helped you a little.

Sweet! That's what I am talking about. Tricks of the trade to easy-off the pain just a little! I will do it sometime next week as I am going to college, have a full time job and a new addition to the family (beautiful baby girl). See, I need more hours in a day to find more time to play.

Since you dont have a ton of time, either pull the plug or take the head off (only 2 bolts for the tank, the fuel line, and 6 nuts on the head) and let some marvels mystery oil soak in the top of the cyl. My father did that with a motor that was stuck in 40's mack truck and after it turned over by hand he got it running without tearing it down. The other nice thing atleast about my air cooled R was the head gasket was copper so you just heat it with a propane torch and toss it into water to make it expand again, so you dont need to buy any gaskets unless it gets damaged. Yep, your gonna have to beat it out of there. It's best to get the head off and pound the piston down with a block of wood.

as a another newbie, I just put it in 4th gear and slowly rocked it back and forth, might be bad for the tranny though. Jim

Thank you for your input as I will combine y'all knowledgeable tricks and I will put them to work.

The copper gasket thingy is a good trick though. I will keep it in mind.

ok here is my thing on a seized motor, pull the top end and check if the piston can move in the bore any, if it can then it seized on the lower end so all the oil in the world may not get it to unseize (crankshaft/rod seize) all pistons have a very slight movement in them (rings) and you can move it simply by putting your fingers on it and trying to move it, if its the lower end, then pull the motor and find a reputal cycle shop to do the work, preferbly not a dealer, becouse a dealer will most likely use the reputal cycle shop to do the work and then charge you on top of what they charge you.

Marvel works great for things that have sat and have seized from rust/corrosion.

When an engine seizes from heat, worn parts and or lack of oil. It usually locks up real good and oil won't help get it apart..

If it seized in the lower end then it may be out of my league. I am hoping that this will turn into a learning experience and I am positive about it (if it's seized in the top end) if not, your advise most likely will be follow althought I will try the above suggestions first!

Worst comes to worst, I will have it to take it to a reliable bike shop... Thanks

See, what it was kind of weird is that I fired the bike for less than a minute. It had oil in it but not fresh...(maybe a couple seasons old?) But it has not been ridden that much with that oil. I am not able to kick start, it's freeze and wheels are locked up. Overheating due to lack of oil?

I am hoping to solve this mystery soon!
