What do they have for power? Are they built by Rover? How do they compare to a Unimog?

It uses a Volkswagen 2.5 litre straight six diesel for power, not the best engine in the world, but it copes
Rather than explain the history I stole this from the website:

    History

1971 Originally designed and built by Steyr-Daimler-Puch of Austria the first Pinzgauer rolled off production in 1971. The design concept evolved from the much smaller, but equally agile Haflinger and the first prototypes were produced in 1965.

1993 The company, Automotive Technik was founded by David Findlay and Alan Mawer as the UK agent for Steyr-Daimler-Puch. They imported the Puch Super G which they introduced to the Fire Service and the Pinzgauer which they sold into both the UK military and Fire Services.

2000 Automotive Technik Holdings Limited (ATL) took over the production rights for the Pinzgauer offering full manufacturing capability at its sites in the south of England.

2005 Automotive Technik Holdings Ltd is acquired by Stewart & Stevenson Services Inc. One of the world’s leading manufacturers of military tactical vehicle systems and a key supplier to the US Army.

March 2006 To maximise the awareness of the Pinzgauer brand Automotive Technik Ltd was re-named Pinzgauer Ltd

May 2006 Pinzgauer Ltd and Stewart & Stevenson became subsidiaries of the leading aerospace and defence group Armor Holdings Inc., manufacturer of security products for vehicle armoring and soldier protection capabilities.

Today The Pinzgauer is produced exclusively in the United Kingdom and is generally regarded as the most advanced and mobile off-road light utility vehicle in its class. More than 26,000 vehicles have been supplied to 28 Defence Forces Worldwide. Built in 4 x 4 and 6 x 6 versions, it is offered in a number of standard variants and the versatility of its platform enables the vehicle to be adapted to almost any configuration a customer might require, for example, armoured, waterproofed or a trauma unit.

In addition to the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence, Pinzgauer has an international customer base and is actively pursuing a number of programs Worldwide.

    Check out the website:

My dad is proud to say that ours is the only one in the world with this specification (Right hand drive, Civilian specification, Diesel). They are now only produced for military use. He spent seven years (on and off) rebuilding it, I had better not tell him you think it looks like a VW Camper, he might cry lol lol

I guess it does look a bit like a Forward Control Land Rover, thats where the similarities end lol
The Defender in the pic came with us, I'll try and find some better pics of it.
