Why do the 350X heads fail so often??

What causes the 350X heads to fail? Seems like alot of them have junk cam journals, which then ruins the rockers and the cam and everything else up there.

Is it the oil level getting low or is there an issue with the 350X oil pump or size of the oil feed lines and orifaces??

Anyone who can shed some light on this??

I found an X for 900$ but I can guarantee that the head is junk and wondered why the go bad.

running when they are flipped over in a accident.

rockers, someone putting a cam in with used rockers or not having them hard welded.

overheating thinning oil to nothing, nobody priming oil pump at rebuild, filling oil resovoir in head at rebuild,

I can think of more reasons........................

The valve guides are made of a weaker material than the rest of the honda bikes/trikes. That is also one problem.

Poor oil maintainence. Change it more often than necessary....and the filter too! Cheap insurance. And don't stand the thing on it's grab bar. That empties out the cam lobe oil pocket. A sure way to F the cam and rockers!

as soon as the oil starts to get dirty i change it, so thats every few rides and i change the filter every other oil change.

iv seen a guy rebuild a 250x (which has the external oil line like a 350x) and he just stuck 2 bolts in the oil line holes.....well he wiped out the head

so i think low oil levels or lack of oil changes is the main reason they go bad

also get a new pump...honda stoped making 350x oil pumps but a 300ex pump works as long as you use the 350 drive gear in the 300ex pump
    80s......185 atc, Yamaha tri-moto 200, 85 200x with tons of work
90s......89 Suzuki quad racer 250 (raced 250 A class for 6 years, late 90s.. custom framed 250x with long travel shocks and a built 350x motor.... built Honda 110
00s...... chomeoly framed 350 RX with all the goodies (thanks to my bro)
    2012.....Replaced the 350x motor for a 444cc YZ426

I think its the owners that get them in such bad shape. No oil on the top end and running them to death with old blackend oil will chew them up prety bad.
I got my 350x here in Ca for $950. The top end is gorgeous, the journals are perfect.

I think often times people put the filters in backwards, this restricts oil flow to the head and toasts them. Same with 250X and 300EX - that filter is too easy to put in backwards.

Constant wheelstands don't help. I know a guy who used to hire 350's at Pismo and wheelstand them till they burned out the cam, take it back, get another one and so on... What a d....head.

I know most of that honda design, if you run it low in oil, there is a good chance you have that damage. 350x's aren't the only ones, xr200-xr500's also have this problems. Xrsonly.com offers a service to repair the heads, not cheap, about $300.
