ATC? What does that stand for?

It's weird, I've owned ATVs for about six years now, and still haven't been able to find out what ATC stands for. I've always known ATV stood for "All Terrain Vehicle", but what does ATC stand for?

    Its all Honda,they own it

"Officially introduced to America in 1970, the US 90 sent its 7 horsepower through a dual-range four-speed gearbox with automatic clutch, and sold for $595. It was renamed the ATC90 later that year as Honda trademarked the ATC name.'

That makes sense. I had a feeling it was more of a trademark of Honda's than anything else.

    Thanks!

I believe trademarks last for 11 years. Not for sure. I know they dont last forever though.

Trademarks last 10 years with 10 year renewals. After the first 5 years, you must file an "affidavit of use" and pay an additional fee to keep the registration alive. If you miss the renewal, you have an additional 6 months to renew and pay an additional penalty.
Since Honda does not manufacture ATC's and does not market them, then the "ATC" trademark is in the public domain.

Ya i heard that that's why all of the "other" Rag's are called "ATV's" because of the Honda ATC Patent And also they had a Engine Displacement Patent.....
the Early Yami's and other Bike Motor's where allmost under the seat ..
when the Patent date ran out the "TRI-Z"and the "T-3" Came out with the Motor in the Right Place !!!

I also think thats why the manufactures continue to use there names for other products so they dont lose them..
Like honda's oddesey Now they use it for there mini vans...
Like yamaha's warrior Now they use it for there snowmobiles...
    and there's many more.

Kind of true but R, LT and Z are not registered patents or trademarks with their respected companies. Other knock-off brand companies have also used those sufix-prefix for their models. And as for the motor location, that had nothing to do with patents. Those companies tried to bring the center of gravity and balance to a more neutral position so a rider had a better chance for control.
