How much are you spending when you are restoring some of theese trikes. I know it all depends on what needs replaced/repaired. I seems like it would cost a small fortune to make one of theese close to new.

Probably gonna have between $800-$1000 in my 200x when its all done, and it could have been way more.I'm sure some spend way more than that though, especially if they want nothing but NOS OEM parts. I must say it's been worth every penny and I can't wait to start another one....hopefully an 85'-86' 250r or an 86' 350x.

I didn't do a complete NOS OEM restoration.. I used Maier plastics instead of OEM because Maier's are like 1/4 the price.. but most everything else on the bike is original and I just brought them back to life (polishing.. powdercoating) and the rear rezzy and other small parts are NOS. It took me $4000 to take it from a huge-ass basket case to a nice runner. If you just want a nice bike that is nice and mostly original and not a 100% authentic OEM machine without a single flaw.. you can do it for a fair amount.

Last time I checked I was around $2500. into my Tecate. And that is just a nice bike, no where near a show piece.
I wouldn't want a show piece- then I wouldn't be able to ride it!!!
Im at $530 for my 85 200X Luckily the motor ran good I just had to clean the carb. the clutch was bad, so I replaced that, the seat was ripped. I just replaced the plastic, seat, new air filter,clutch 2 tires, and a master cylinder resivoir. I started with a $200 basketcase. It really needs a front fender and it should look and run really sweet. Jim
It all depends on what model you are doing a 110 full resto is about 1/3 what it would take to get a water cooled 250r restored , you can easily dump 10K into a big bore bike to do it 100%, wanna do a showroom 86 350X lets start with a NOS rear fender $1500, add the parts up $$$$$
Im probably around $1500 into the restoration not including the orginal price of the Z.
And I still got a good $200-300 to come before I start modifying. This is no where near show either.

It really does seem like a small fortune sometimes, but most hobbies are expensive these days anyways. The continual constant parts upkeep to ride multiple machines is what seems to get old for me. But compared to a new 4 wheeler at 6k plus - we are having more fun building something for pride and admiration then just slapping down my credit card for a bike that will need the same maintenance after a year or so of riding. At least thats what i tell myself. I'd also rather spend 150 a month on some new oem parts than on a 5 year loan.
My first 85 Tri-z that I bought supposedly needed nothing for 1300. After complete restore and new engine rebuild with original price cost me about 3500 total.
Second 86 Tri-z I bought for 300 with an exploded clutch basket as the only issue. After new sleeve, complete axle and bearing carrier, clutch, and new plastics. Took me about 1800 total to complete.
ATC 250r - bought for 1700. Powdercoat frame and freshing up all plastic parts. i probably have about 2500 in it.
86 Tecate. Bought for 1150. replaced all plastic parts including tank and all mechanical bearings, shock, new bolts and such. I figure 3500 because late model tecate parts are pretty expensive for parts and availability.
