    Silence my Tecate! Please!

I am the proud owner of an 85 Tecate which I recently purchased and am saving from the bone-yard. It is up and running pretty well and I've taken it out twice now with my buds on trail rides. Of course they all have 4-stroke 4-wheelers, yeah I've got to be different, you know the type.

I'm hearing too much flak about the noise of this Tecate. It's actually hard to communicate with my friends when we ride. It has a DG Type II silencer that I've recently rebuilt and I added a Cobra Sparky spark arrestor. This thing is loud. Anyone know how to quiet it down without hurting power too much. I've thought of the Supertrap silencer that I can tune the sound down with, but those things are only listed for 4-stroke engines. What can I do to quiet my trike down? Thanks, Chris

You could try repacking the silencer, or i would get a new FMF quiet series exhaust. I used to have one on a blaster and it was pretty nice considering i used a unpacked toomey.

FMF makes a "Q" series muffler that is really good at knocking down the noise. I'm sure they don't make one specificly for the KXT, but I bet if you call them they will sell you a universal fit one that you can make work. Or if you get lucky and find a nice stock silencer, use that. They are almost always quiet unless they've been intentionally modified otherwise

yeah try repacking the silencer first. me i just bought a nice NOS bassani headpipe for my t3 and will be more then likely running a answer hottip silencer on it. i have an eye on a bassani silencer on ebay, to go along with my bassani pipe, but who knows if i can win it. i might have to modify the tube that runs from the pipe to the silencer, but thats nothing. i like the loudness, its a 2 stroke!!

Thanks guys, I've seen the universal silencers on the internet. I don't remember if they were the quiet series from FMF or not, I'll go back to where I saw it and take a look. When I found it on the internet I saved the page for future looking just in case the repacked DG was too loud...it is...so I'll give it another look.

Your friends think your bike is too loud? Wait till they throw an aftermarket exhaust system on their 4-strokes, then you'll be the one complaining about too much noise.

So very true...a piped 450 is much louder than a piped shee in my opinion.

All these rednecks with their quiet 4x4 atvs...what can I say? I agree though, this much noise in the serinity of the woods seems just wrong.

ahhhhhhhhhh, thats why i ride my loud 2 stroke. you know when i am coming, and when i pass a slow four stroke, and create a huge dust trail, it lets them know where i am!! which is usually way ahead of them, lol. i love the loud ting ting ping ping noise a 2stoke makes. dont get me wrong, i love the way a four stroke can sound too with a nice pipe and silencer, for me, louder is better!!
