    faircross series round 4 results

well another beautiful day of racing in ohio.good weather and a awesome track set the tone for some good racing.medina was by far the nicest track so far this season.a huge 55' table top, grand stand jump,a nice six pack rythem section,a long straight, with a left hand hair pin into a 30' double, with a 45' step on/table top double.very nice, and so trike/quad friendly.

so i got last gate pick, again.i lined up way out to the left of everyone.derrick beside me,with tim jr sandwiched in between sr.,and derrick.right of the holeshot derrick jumped out front.i fell in behind him,and tima and i were dead even heading towards the 55'er.i fully expected derrick to let off,and i would jump by him.uhhhh,no way.he hit that table top hard, clearing the whole thing!!!!!!with my poor start i didn't have enough momnetum to clear it,and landed about 5 feet short, kinda a rough one!

so with derrick out in front...the race was on.tim sr. nipping at my heels i slammed into the 6 pack.derrick a bike lenght in fornt of me,and tim a bike length behind me.jr. was soon to follow.i wacked all 3 double flawless.i landed and locked up the rear brakes, pumping the front to get the tire to bite.i can smeel derrrick's bike at this point.i got goosebumps, and squared up the corner, ready to pounce to the inside.i dropped the clutch and skimmed the inside line.derrick had stalled after trying to get stoped after the 6 pack.there he sat on the outside of the berm, steaming i'm sure.

i countined to push for a lap.and half.i looked back over the 30' double to see where everyone was at.all i see is derrick,30' in the air, just sking this huge 55' table.flash bulbs everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!

at this point i had a decent lead and rode smart.not wanting to eat *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* with noone on my tail.so i aired the 55'er out,and looked to the grandstands in mid air.holy *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited*!!!!!!a couple thousand people staring at ya can really tense you
up!i landed her smooth, cleared my head, and pushed for the finish line.

looking back i am sure glad tim ,and derrick battled it out back there to keep em both off my tail.they were both riding excellent.tim jr. rode his 200x to the max like always and came home with another plauqe.congradulations bud.your doing awesome this year.

it's apleasure racing with my boys.you guys are all awesome riders.we always have a very clean race.thanks for coming derrick, timsr, and jr.the memories of ripping up that huge track with you guys is what drives me.i know now why tim has been doing this so long...............IT'S FUN.

SORRY NO PICS ON THIS ONE GUYS. I'm digging around on the net, trying to find someone that got some snapshots. We really tryed to line up some camera people, just never worked out.

Max, I wish you were at this race, I wouldn't have disappointed you.

The track was awesome. Real trike friendly, although a bit big in the air department. When flyin' Brian didn't show, I knew it was up to me to give Brandon a run for his money. Besides, i'm getting tired of the 2nd place plaques, I want at least one win.

This was the first time they ran us in a seperate class from the quads. Fine by me, I would have been really pushing to keep up with any of the normal guys on that track. Those 450's just pull so freakin hard out of the corners.

Next stop Richland County Fair, next Wednesday. Then its Attica County Fair on friday, then Sunset Ramblers on Sunday. WOOT Summer fun!!!!

What else can be said. Great riding, and great fun among some great friends! As well its great to walk around and see all the other kids who have grown up around mine on the race track, now racing adult classes. I thanked Peggy from the CRA board and Faircross Promotions for running a special 3 wheeler class for us. She was pleased that we had come, and only lamented that there were not more, but that as long as we could get a handful we'd be welcomed with a 3 wheeler class. We also chuckled about the old days when TimJr raced his TriZinger and how he had grown since he was a few days shy of 4 years old back in 1998.

On the way home it was bittersweet, as TimJr excitedly talked about his plans for his future in 3 wheeler racing, and even about selling his quad. I had to lay out the hard reality to him that there is no future in 3 wheeler racing, and that we were a novelty that peaks interest among spectators and old timers. 3 wheelers are an interest from the past, and not a vsion of the future. I also explained that he was extremely fortunate and blessed that he was taking full advantage of the opportunity to race now, and that he would be building memories to last his lifetime that almost none of the kids his age would EVER have, as he was just beginning with a machine that is already ancient. Some guys collect trikes. Others collect memories on their trike. I told him that 10 or 15 years from now, he may have his 200x fully restored, and sitting idle, mayeb under glass, only to be viewed, and never ridden again, and that each time he looked at it, it would bring all those memories of his days of racing 3 wheelers, something almost no one else would in his age bracket or even older would never have.

To those who continue to say "someday" or "one of these days" or "maybe next time" or "Im not quite good enough yet", or "my trike isnt fast enough", your window of opportunity is rapidly closing and you had best do it while its open or spend you life wondering what it would have been like to have experienced it just once. A handful of guys cannot keep that window open forever. If you ever want to do it in your lifetime, I suggest you do it NOW because these opportunities are rare, and if you are lucky enough to live in or near Ohio, you are letting a once in a lifetime opportunity pass you by. I dont have many good racing years left, and as my good friends can carry the torch a bit longer than me, and as the number of remaining riders shrink, it gets harder to bring new ones in. As I explained to TimJr, there is a very bright future in quad racing, so never shy away from mastering one, but seize the moment now while it lasts, and build those 3 wheeler racing memories before the flame goes out. You can probably race quads until you are older than I am now, but when you are my age, you will not be racing trikes. You will only have your memories of racing them.

I want to thank all of you who have joined me in recent years in local motocross, and in creating the best memories, and bringing the greatest enjoyment of all my years of racing that I will carry throughout my lifetime, and for giving my son the same opportunity even more rare to his age group, to also build these same memories while this fleeting moment lasts. My only regrets in life were the things I wanted to do, but never tried, and there werent many. If you can imagine that ten years from now there may be no more trike racing opporunites, and if you wil be regretful that you never tried it, go do it now.

Thanks TimJr, Brandon, and Derrick for some awesome racing memories!

that is so cool that you guys get out there and do this. Brandon, thanks for having such a detailed account of the race, it makes it almost like I can see it happening. Especially after watching you guys race at trikefest. Anyways, always like to read the results of the races keep on posting them. Good luck on the rest, and keep on representing the trikes!

man i will tell you guys i was just up getting some cookies and milk, not looking for the one of the best, most heart felt, and well said few paragraphs i have ever got to read.

tim sr.,you are both a hell of a racer, and one hell of a guy.the first time i raced my trike was with you.you spanked my tail, hard!!!but you lit a flame!!i know i will do whatever it takes to carry on your torch sir!!!!!!we have a great thing going here in ohio right now.i am hoping it will carry over to other states, but the point is YOU have kept this fire alive for so long.you my friend truely deserve the credit here.not only for allowing your son to forge these memories, but for allowing guys like me,derrick, max, mark, jason hall, charlie, virgil, and everyone that takes part in our local mx scene.that doesn't count all you go through for the tf mx races.not cause tim sr. likes to be stressed out,but because you want EVERYONE to enjoy the thrill of mx.i can't stress enough how much YOU mean to our sport.THANK YOU TIM!!!

i think that all your comments are spot on,execpt one.this thing does not have to die out!!!remember the little kids at smith road, who wanted autographs.not from the bike guys, not from the quad guys, but from us!!!

all we can do guys is support each other.show up,ride hard, hug at the end of the race, and go home happy!!thats it.have fun.create those memories.yeah i could go buy a new quad, and proballly do fairly well racing it,but i couldn't buy the friends i got!!!!
