piston stuck in cylinder

alright i picked up a 82 250r a couple weeks ago for 200 bucks non running. i took apart the top end and figured i just needed rings the piston wasnt bad at all. i put it all back together with gaskets and a clutch and the motor would turn fine and i got it running after cleaning the carb i only had it running for maybe 30 seconds. i never rode it because the clutch wasnt working at the time which now it does. but i got it to another friends house started kicking it over trying to start it when the motor locked up after it never started. i got the head off and the piston will only move to about the top of the exhaust port to right under it. i unbolted the jug and tried to get it off but i didnt want to bend nothing so i quit with that does anybody have an idea whats going on here and how the heck im gonna get the piston out to fix the cylinder. i do not want to bore nothing. any ideas are much appreciated

I doubt that you will get it out without having any problems, like breaking a ring or something, but it sounds like you should have bored it in the first place.

A little punctuation would help, I had a heck of a time understanding what you were trying to say. Correct me, are you saying that you kick it over and it stops just at the exhaust port? And then you tried taking the jug off and it's not coming off? I could be wrong, but if it's not seized, it may be the rings are catching on your port.

try takeing the rubber end of a and try hitting it down to free it

your rings didnt stay in place. My guess is that you didnt have the rings in the notches in the piston correctly, so the ring/rings slipped off the piston and got caught on a port.

Alright, sorry about that guys. Ive never even posted on a forum before. I am actually a very literate person lol. But let me try to explain myself a little better. It won't kick over because the piston for some reason can't get to the top of the cylinder and when i push down on it with my hand it'll only go maybe 2 inches, take or give, until the top of the piston is right on the bottom of the exhaust port. i cant recall right now if the rings do go below the port. It might be possible they are catching. At this point i dont care if i go throuugh another set of rings since dennis kirk sent me 2 sets. I have realized i should have honed the cylinder before putting it together. I am not looking to making it bigger than a 250.

witch way is the arrow pointing on the top of the piston should be twards the exaust. If you can get it down below the exaust port the cylinder should pull off. Maybe tap it down a little harder

look up the exaust port with a flashlight see if you can see the rings, maybe push them in with a screwdriver wile pushing down on the piston???

Alright...last time i looked at it i did feel the rings through the exhaust port and they feel to be set in. When i put the rings in (my first time ever) i learned the piston didnt go in the cylinder unless the rings where in the notches that i learned were there. I have cracked on the piston out of anger pretty hard with a big socket with not a budge. I'll try all your suggestions i appreciate your time. Are these air cooled r's worth the time? Everyone I've ever talked to about them all said one thing...Fast as hell. I can't wait til i get the experience.

well the thing with air cooled is they run like crazy when there cold semi warm, BUT when they start heating up they get a little sluggish, not much but a little.... o and my suggestion is same as the one person.... look at the arrow to see if its in place
