    200X Exhaust & Air Filter

I have an 83 200X that is bone stock I just put in a Uni Air Filter and a Cobra exhaust system. After the install I fire the bike up and it is idle really high (not to mention really loud). The idle screw seems to do nothing. Is this a common problem am I going to have to tune the carb or something. Please help....

You probably have to adjust the pilot air screw on the bottom of the carb closest to the intake.

try pulling the throttle slider out of the top of the carb and put the clip for the height adjuster in another slot..this richens/leans the idle circuit

Idling issue is all in the jetting of the carb, my friend....

loudness however allies in your choice of Exhaust (cobra): Loud and little to no performance increase. Put the stocker back on if ya got one.

I just bought a Cobra Exhaust for my 86 200X. Haven't put it on yet, dealing with some other things, but did notice that it didn't match up with the stock muffler mount, but it did match up with the mount for the grab bar in the back. Did your Cobra match up with the stock mufler mount?

I was just going the same problem with my 200x all this week. I have the same setup stock except the uni and the cobra, and mine was reving high. I tried everything, but when I changed the throttle cable it was better, actually now it idle's too low, I gotta reverse everything I did before. So try the throttle cable it might have a kink in it and the needle might be getting stuck.

thats how it is with about every aftermarket exhaust for any vehicle on the planet.

The key is not to have the silencer all the way onto the header. THere should be some "leeway" for the silencer to go forward on the header. THen Just run an exhaust clamp.
