    Suzuki LTZ400

I ended up picking up an 03-Z400 From a friend of a friend that is having a baby.. he still owed on it... i offerd him the pay off.. ( $2100.00) and he took it..i did some research and they are going for every bit of 3500 around here. so i think i got a decent deal! it has nerf bars on it, DG front bumper, and a durablue extended axle on it and its rolling on new holl shots all the way around! Im looking for some opinions on the bike... i know its the same exact thing as theKFX400 and artic cats bike... is there any slight mods that will wake it up?? and how is it compared to some of the other bikes out there... any idea of top speed?.. im just wanting to know some info on it and if any..some things to watch out for as far as things going bad! Thanks, Chris... heres a couple pics

Put a CT Sonic Pipe on it and Rejet it With a Open air box lid and A K&N Filter. The Web site is www.ctracing.com They Tell you What Size To Rejet to. Plus you can buy all of this as a package. It Wakes your stock z400 From around 29HP to 37HP Which is a huge Gain to be made considering Thats almost 1/3 of an increase in power. If you Want to be Pushing 50HP Go on e-bay and Buy for around $600 an Athena 435cc Big bore kit. It comes with Everything you need to make our bike overnite smoke any 450 out there basically. I only know this because i also iam getting a z400 In the next couple of months and i have been looking around at how to upgrade it.

Id say you got a pretty good deal on it. You can wake it up with a pipe and filter but i think you should have bored .20 over and a higher comp piston done. That should wake it up real nice.
    I got nothing...

cmracer, the best thing you can do to that quad is k&n filter, full pipe, and dynojet kit. that will wake that beast up. even jet it to run without the airbox lid. it will seriously rip after that.

as everyone else stated pipes, filter, bore, and a extended from suspension and you'll have yourself a nice bike. But something i quickly relized after getting my kfx, their built for mx racing not flat track, your never going to have upper edge in flat out races against any other modded quad, your advantage is mx, so focus on that, the main thing they need is suspension mods, 2+ a-arms will do wonders for you, as well as some nice elkas stuck on it. also as soon as you can get yourself a nice heavy duty racing clutch stuck in that sucker. i've had clutch troubles out the butt, first bike i have ever even had a clutch slip on, clutch fully went out 2 months after i bought it, even thou its not under warrenty kawi paid for it all, (just over a $1200 bill) but they refused to tell me what went wrong, guy at the shop told me he's never seen anything burn up that quick and bad, same guy that worked on my other bikes(banshee, 250's, the lt's and my buddys raptor that i keep here) and he actually asked me who's been riding my bike that could have done that, yeah well out of all the bikes i have ever owned, 3 ppl have ridden them besides me, and none of them even close to long enough to do that. and no 6 months later clutch is messed up again and surprise surprise kawi is paying for it again but yeah i would have a heavy duty put in there if you plan on using it often (should be noted i put upwards of 60-70 hours on my bike in a busy month some months it gets more hours than my explorer )

o one other thing, if you have the chance, get the frame gusseted, especially the ealier z's and kfx's were notorious for having weak frames. heres a article on it actually

cmracer, i got an 03 z400 that i have had for 3 years now. I went through the mods slowly, started with a pipe, jet kit, filter, airbox. All of these things really help the power on the machine. I just recently installed a drze base gasket to help bump the comp up a bit. I havent ridden it yet but look forward to trying her out. i also put a set of hotcams in it. Make sure you check the frame for cracks or stress marks especially above the upper shock mounts. Mine began cracking last year and i just gussetted the frame. This quad rocks in its class but when you put it up against 450s, you better be the better rider and have something done to your quad. All in all i love this thing to death and i hope you enjoy yours. Top speed is around 67-72 depending who you ask and it will typically dyno around 30-32

    ..

Well, some parts i orderd started rolling in today... i decided to rip off the whole Air box since i wont be going in any mud with it..

-i orderd what their calling a Velocity Intake system off Ebay. Its pretty much like a cold air intake for a car.. it came with a rubber boot...2 hose clamps..and a custum bent metel pipe... and also a K&n filter+ Prefilter. i also added a crank case breather tube filter as well.

    - I also Bought a HMF Slip on Pipe. and from what im reading is one of the top "MID" range pipes. its suposed to have a more broad power band then the others... it comes with the jets to rejet the carb..but doesent say which one. Dirt wheels suggests a 170 main...but not sure yet.

_ ok so now i should be able to gain a little horsepower...has anyone tried those rev overide boxes..that also are suposed to allow you to change rpm curvs..and other things?? notice a diff with them??

    - Im trying to clean this thing up a bit. I want to get rid of all the cludder on the handle bars...i hate all the stock crap.. (Clutch lever/parking brake sw.) and the ugly plastic piece that holds the lights in place...i saw an alum. bar clamp on ebay i liked... i also want to go to white platics..anyone have a spare set or know where to get one at a decent price.. i saw some on ebay but most has the head light elimiater...which i dont want! Any other ideas to make this thing look better?? Heres some pics!

I know 2 peopel that have bought aftermarket cdi's and have had nothign but trouble. One is just a plain jane 1,000 rpm increase cdi. If his battery isn't perfect it won't start. If it dies when hot it won't start.

My cousin bought one of the high dollar programable ones for his YFZ and he had it on the dyno, it made no difference at all. I can get the brand name if you need it.

Yeah i put a rev box On my Raptor and saw no difference in power at all except maybe a slight difference in top speeed because it gave me 1000 more RPM's to rev to. It claimed to give me 3HP but that was when i was young and dumb and believed anything. They dont do much for power gains but they do give you a little more top end speed. Cause most bikes power drops off considerably before you even hit the rev limiter so when you raise the rev limiter it doesnt do anything for power it just alows the engine to rev a little higher. Go and look at those dyno's i posted up top and look at the HP and where it's made in the rpm range most bikes rev limiters are set at like around 9000 RPM's so when you up the rev limit to 10,000RPM's you have absolutly no power that high up in the rpm range so it does no good.
