    Just another day at work

The last few days I've been making screened topsoil for about 8-9 hrs straight. This involves me,a JDeere 544 loader(3 cubic yrd bucket),a READ Screen-all dirt screening plant(that makes more noise than anything),and a few hundred tons of various types of dirt.I mix the dirt up and run it through the screener.First the dirt goes through a 2 inch screen, then a 1/2 or 3/4 inch screen depending on what I'm mixing. This makes very nice topsoil for lawns, gardens, flowers, etc. I'm just outside of the middle of nowhere, no people, no civilization, etc. All day I drive back and forth from the dirt piles to the sceener and drink lots of water. It also hasnt rained here in almost 2 months, the dust is 4 inches thick where I drive. I only have a casette player to listen to b/c no stations come in and it has to be full blast to hear it b/c I wear earplugs all day,,,and its still noisy. My 80's-90's casette collection gets well used and some even quit working, lol. My brain comes up with some very wierd thoughts during the day. I thought about what I would do if Osama Bin Laden walked out of the woods unarmed and looking for help.Do I take him in to the authorities,or do I throw him on the screening plant and see how much dirt it takes to force his body through the screens; Or do I just flatten him right out with the wheels or bucket. At that point a hawk or eagle flew under the sun and casted a shadow over me. When I looked up and saw this huge bird soaring I thought to myself, "Now that right dere is freedom,I dont care who ya are".,,,then it was back to the dirt.Another good deal of thought went into making a blaster 3 wheeler,do I use the tri-z frame or the blaster frame?then I remembered that the LRD blaster pipe would not work on a trike b/c it will hit the front wheel. After awhile I thought the whole project is a waste of time and money.I also think about building mx tracks whenever I'm in the dirt.If I was turned loose on a piece of property with a machine,I'd have all the pro's gawking(not saying I would clear all the jumps .I also saved about 10 toads and 1 snake from death,I notice them infront of the bucket right before I scoop out of the pile; The dirt piles have grass/weeds growing out of them so the lil creatures like to move in on them. They usually fall down into the loose dirt,so I have to get out and rescue them.I dont see them all but the ones I do I save. The only thing thats remotely exciting is looking for buried treasure as it fall out in the screened topsoil. So far,I found a silver spoon from 1847,a few coins(not too old),and a $5 bill, nothing that I can retire on.WHen 4:30 rolled around I got the heck outta there, had enough dust and dirt for one day,,,besides I made about $4000 worth of dirt.

    Todays cassettes included:
Metallica- Ride the lightning,MAster of Puppets,Reload
    Pantera-Vulgar display of power
    Danzig-Lucifuge,How the gods Kill
    Iron maiden-Somewhere in time
Suicidal Tendencies-album with "institutionalized" on it
    Testament-Souls of Black
    GnR-Appetite for destruction
Slaughter-album with "up all night"and "fly to the angels"
    Anthrax-Attack of the Killer B's
,,,and lastly just to mix things up a bit I threw in the old Chronic album from Dr.Dre and Snoop D O double gizzle.

Anybody elses day as exciting as mine was?

You and me are in sorta the same boat Jim. I run a grinder all night. The noise from the smog hog and the grinder drives you nuts. I might also mention that there is a vast amount of coolant flying in the air. The job is VERY boring ( so boring I have fell asleep while pushing parts into the machine ), all I have to do is to push parts into it on one side ( standing in one spot ) and take them out on the other. On average I probably load about 9-12 parts per minute. I only load about 1500 - 2000 parts a night. It may seem like a lot of parts, but it really isn't. My job is easy once you learn the machine. I don't even think about what I am doing, instead my mind wonders all over the place. Some of my best idea's have come to me while running a machine like this. The ONLY thing I like about my job is the pay ( and it isn't the best ).

Oh, I might mention that the parts I run normally have to have a 16 millicron (sp? ) finish and be within +- .0002. Some of the parts have to have a 8 mil finish or better ( this is very smooth ).

Jim it's too bad we don't live closer. I am sure if we put our heads together we could make a KILLER trike out of a 4 wheeler. lmao

Hey Jim, now I know what I have to look forward when I get to start screening top soil. I just started a job at a gravel pit about 4 months ago. So far I've fed the screen plant making washed sand, 3/8 rock, 1 1/2 rock, 2 1/2 rock with a 980F loader. Hauled accross the pit to stockpile for washing, running a Cat EL200B hoe, and a mack dump truck. That washing does get boring, except you gotta stay alert cause if somthing plugs up or the pump clogs it could be an expensive mistake. The boss is talking like I'll be the one doing the top soil when the new screening plant arrives.

It is pretty amazing how much wildlife we see in the pit considering how noisey it is. We have seen deer, moose, bear, woodchuck, turtle, wolf, fox, geese, and much more, a wildlife enthusiast could probably spend a day in the woods in pure quietness and not see a thing, but come to the pit and we got everything.

I'm in the same boat, no good stations come in, the only thing that comes in that I listen to is stuff from the 70s, which aint bad but gets old after awhile.

    Well, have fun screening tommorow.

Jim & Howdy, I think about doing 4 to 3 conversions at least 10 times a day. Been looking for a suitable 4 wheeler to butcher but haven't found the right one yet. Anybody got one to donate? lol.

Yes, I do have a 4 wheeler just waiting to be modified. I would hate to do it though. I say this because there isn't a crack in the fenders. lmao

Flatten half and throw the other half in the screener!

Good musical selection, especially the Metallica and GnR. Saw Metallica in concert once, monster stage show!

I read the set list, and I'm into it - then I get to this .......
Slaughter-album with "up all night"and "fly to the angels"
    and I loose all respect.

Thats some pretty "stream of conciousness" type stuff right there. I'm half tempted to go through that and remove all punctuation to create the worlds longest run on sentence.

I had the same problem when i was running the rollar this summer on a road job we were doing. I liked running the rolar but it got boring at times. My legs would go numb from sitting in the seat and when id go home and go to bed id here either the backhoe or the damn rollar until i fell asleep. But for the pay i was getting i couldnt complain and i lvoe working construction.
