    tightening the chain

my chain is almost loose enough to take a link out on the chain. how do i manage to tighten the chain using the chain thing, do i just loosed it and beat the axle back? i had it loose and was pulling back and nothing moved so i dont know what to do. by the way this is on the 1982 200e

i think you just loosen that deal then pull the axle back. i have a hard tail but its a 110 and it uses a tensioner. i seen my dad do it on a 185 once a good while back.

Here's what i did on our old 110. loosen the bolts that hold the axle in place, sit on the ground directly behind the bike and put your legs under the axle with your feet on the backs of the foot pegs for support. then just pull and wiggle the axle back toward you until it is at the right tension than tighten the bolts back up. hope this helps!!!

I'm not sure about the 200e, but on our 110 there are 4 bolts to loosten. Another thing may be that it is as far back as it can go and your chain is stretched. Try moving it forward, if it moves forward you may have to take a link out and then try readjusting it.

Not sure on a 200, but on a 185s you will find four bolts under the rear end, two on each side. You loosen those up real loose, then you turn the tensioner until teh chain tightens. I always tighten mine a little more than it seems necessary. Then you tighten up the four bolts again. (I tighten the tensioner a bit more than it seems necessary because when I re-tighten the four bolts the chain loosens up a bit on its own. Or it loosens up a bit in the first quarter-mile of riding.)
I hope this helps but I have no idea if it's the same tightening system on your bike. Look underneath the back. The four bolts, two on each side, all have the heads of the bolts facing towards the inside of the trike, not the outside.
