    1985 350x quick&easy mods?

i just bought this thing it would only run on full choke, i cleaned the carb out, the main jet was halfway stopped up and the idle jet was 100% clogged, now it runs awesome its so fast, but theres never enough, does anyone know of any quick things i can do to boost this thing up. it already has a dg pipe w/no baffles or packing should i put some in there? im sure ill end up jetting it it runs very lean now. and also how in the heck do i keep the freakin front end down?!?!?! i know i can beat all my buds lol, we havent raced yet but i have to go at about 50% just to keep it from throwin me on my back what should i do? start out in 3rd lol?

One thing most people dont realize is when a company makes an exhaust with packing it gets best results with packing. Get it jetted, get a K&N, make shure theres packing in there. those are about easyest mods you can do. Also check the valve clearences. Perty much anything elce will get into alota $ and complicating.

all right no take all the baffling out its only in there be cause the company is required by law to have it made with it in there it just slows the flow and quiets it down a bit so take that all out.
your exaughst will do nothing with out a K&N filter and a jet you have to have all three to get some power out of your motor. as for the wheelieing you can weld 3-5 inches in to your swing arm keep your tires hard and learn to sit on the gas tank.

Umm where did you get that idea? think about it. the packing takes up the areas where the air would "flow" to, making it a more direct route out. With the Dg theres little louvers in there, no packing the air goes around the louvers and into the chamber part there, with packing it would not allow it to go in as easly. There fore your theory is incorrect. Look at any good racer, they all have packin in there exhaust, it its key to haveing a good running engine.

mayby not in the DG but like the yoshimuras and the wight bros FMF you want the packing out it just add's friction to the air flow slowing it down and obsorbing sound they have to put it in with the baffling so it will pass Decible requirments in states like California

Where did you get the idea that the packing is JUST in there for sound? Look at all the new 450 exhaust they all have packing, Sparks, ESR, HMF and every other kind of exhaust made. Most those are for closed course competion only so why would they care about decibles? I would bet money that your not going to gain any hp if you removed the packing.

OOO ok, i'm the short bus guy now, I had completely forgot about that, time to change. Withe the packing in you will get a deeper sound, with it out it will be louder yes, but not nearly as deap. Another thing thats all about oppinion. That was a nice little debate. Another upgrade you can do is the 400ex carb, I'm going to do a review about it here soon and post it.

yeah i deffinently understand that packing helps, its all in what your looking for, the bike may have a little more top end with a free flowing pipe, with packing/baffle's it will deffinently have more pick up in the low end, its so loud now ill have to do something, neighbors a 1/4 mile away are starting to stare lol

I'm going to have to correct you here. All the NEW exhausts have removeable inserts. LTE, PC,ESR,WB,FMF,Yoshi,LRD..those are just examples ALL have removeable inserts A.K.A. Baffles, that you remove for an "unlimited" running time. It gives you more power, and more sound. But back on topic. Also, remove your lid for more airflow. You can also change gearing. Bigger front=more topend. Smaller back=more top end.
