    leaking boat

my aluminum jon boat is leaking around the rivets and I was thinking of coating it with that brush on bedliner stuff from wal mart. Its kinda like rhino liner. anyone know if this will work or not ?

I never used that rhino stuff...but I'm sure it will work. I always used a real good waterproff silicone and never has any problems. Make sure you sand down the area's your going to do and make them super clean...shouldn't have any problems.

I've done this before and work on boats for a living so I know it works. Go to a boat supply store by you and ask for Gluvit. You may be able to find it online too. It is a brushable epoxy that cures a little rubbery and is made for just what you're trying to do.

I agree with the Gluvit stuff. It would be your quickest and best bet. Actually, I have used some stuff called "Kool Kote" roof paint on a jon boat and had success with that as well.

Don't use a rubber type sealer. It will eventually seperate and your leaks will reappear. Use a gutter sealer. It stays flexible and will withstand water and temp changes. Comes in white, brown, and maybe clear.

what i have used on my jon boat is duramix, get the kind designated for bumper cover repair. just lightly sand around the rivets and apply there, do not coat the whole bottom. mine is a 11 years and has notleaked yet,. we have it at a friends river house. it is a 12' with an 18hp eveinrude. it halls butt and gets drug ashore constantly. still no leakes

I was always taught to tighten up the loose rivets to stop the boats from leaking never tried the easy patch method. to tighten loose rivets we always used a chunk of bar stock on the outside and a good on the inside just a tap or 2 was tight again!!
