i like the way it runs... but i want a lil more speed on top end....it has a 13th front sprocket on the front...

If you want top end then yes, but i would throw on some 22's if you dont mind the look and its more like a 13 1/2 tooth.

i believe that the 87 quadzillas had 5 speeds and the 88-90 quadzillas had 6 speeds. i am not sure but i think. if you want more speed, then go up on the front sprocket size or down on the rear sprocket size. or both if you want a high speed. but as you gain top end speed, you will lose low end torque

I own a 1987 LT500R Quadzilla. It has a fatty exhaust, 40 over piston, 15,42 sprocket, 22/11/10 tires on the rear. Everything else is pretty much stock. I heard that they have cylinder head leaking problems. I just rebuilt mine because I didn't know the air cleaner disolved in the air box and I destroyed my piston and cylinder and had to get it bored 40 over. Obviously dirt got into the engine, probably the filter too, and put it out of comission for a while. Anyway, I never had any problems with the engine before, no head leaks, no transmission problems, no nothing and I rode it hard. The axel bearings went so I replaced them and the swing arm is next. I clocked my quad at exactly 96 miles and hour, and it might have had a little more to go, but the quad was too shakey and it isnt meant to go that fast anyway. I also heard that the 97 had a better transmission and had a higher top end. I raced Banshees, 450s, etc. and in the 1/8 mile it didnt do to good all the time , but in the quarter mile no one could keep up to me. I would literally pull away in third gear and say bye bye. The stock exhaust isnt really good and holds the quad back. If your a big guy, its perfect for you and handles pretty well. It will climb hills with ease barely reving it. I just though you people needed to know the facts.

The LT500 is one bad motha! We have an 87 in the family with an LRD pipe, 39 pwk, durable axle, pep suspension, JL swingarm (rare), and a few other things I'm sure Im forgetting. If you fix the trouble areas on the 87 they are the ones to have because they put out the most power. The head gaskets do sometimes blow out if the compression is raised to high, o-ringing the head solves this problem. Also they have a tendancy to wallow out the cases where the main bearings sit, so the fix is to machine brass inserts in the cases.

A great site for these is quadracerHQ.com. Dr. Q spends alot of time on these and makes the best pipe out there for the LT500.

Here she sits waiting for the dunes this weekend..
