    Kawasaki Bayou 220

Hello.. I had to sell my 250SX because my mom thought it was too dangerous.. .. After I sold that I picked up this 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220 off my friend for $50.00... It needs alot of work, but I am up for the challenge.. so far it needs a top end, clutch ( but I am oing to try and flip the discs around to get a lil more out of it) , and more cosmetics than Michael Jackson....( was that as funny as I thought it was??) I plan on doing one thing at a time, because that is all that my budget will allow me to do.. First, I am going to get it running, then i will get fenders.. Does anyone have any used fenders or supports?? that would be great if so.. I will get some pics tomarow, or saturday... Is this a good quad?? I am 15 and 110 ponunds...
also, what can I do to make it fast?

The only quad I thrashed harder than a 97 Bayou 220 was my 88 Suzuki quad racer 250. Both were some of my favorites. I think that the Bayou 220 is a great bike. They were agile, and fairly quick for a baby utility bike. you might have to be patient getting parts, many of which will have to be purchased used or new from Kawi. There is not a huge aftermarket collection for the bayous . Keep us posted, and good luck

yeah I know... right now I have a total of 123.00 and change + labor for the top end, gasket set, and UNI dual stage comp. air filter... figyre i can run that without the qirbox lid for now ( he didnt give me the airbox lid).. I can get a muffler off of a 02-03 honda CR230F for free... would that fit with a lil bending?

Search ebay and any atv boneyards for a muffler. Should not be terribly hard to find. Or if you custom fit something without making it looked hacked, that could be cool too. I'd have to look it over before I could tell you if it would fit. Running without the box lid is ok, just stay out of the rain or deep water. good luck

yeah I plan to do that for a muffler.. there are no salvage yards around here, so I tried to contact some place online, and they have yet to get back to me.. I will be getting the main parts in Feb. I hope.. I kept putting it off till the warmer weather...
As I said before.. this does need ALOT of work, but.. for 50 bucks i dont think it should be too bad.. Pics to come.

IF it rolls, it's worth 50 bucks. That does not look bad! Keep up posted on the build, and make friends with any Kawi enthusiasts and parts dealers.

    hey,
the bayous are die hard machines....my 12 y.o. daughter rides one..a 95 model..she loves it, jumps it, mud bogs it, whatever it takes, hehe. Just so you know, the front rims SUCK, the are way skinny which makes the tires wear fast, right down the center and turning is hard, the lug pattern for it is 4/110 so just about any Honda rims with a "large bell" will fit. Im converting hers so she can run 24" tires front and rear. I dont have many extra parts, especially the ones itseems you need but I do have a rear end and shocks if ya need em...also the foot pegs and foot gaurds...Dave A.

Also, there arent many go fast mods or add ons for it, I have looked all over...

yeah.. Im not sure ifit is the way the rims are thin, or the positive camber on the front wheels... My front tires are in great shape, but the rear have slow leaks, I think they are from the valve stem, but I put some fix a flat in for now untill I have the money..
It rolls, and it has some compression, but it doesnt seem like enough to run it, because my 11 HP honda had more compression... Hey davem how much are you lookin for on the foot pegs/ guards and the shocks?? and do you have the bolts for the pegs?
Im plan on putting smaller tires on it for a little more tourque, and because I dont like big tires unless I am mudding..

allright.. I found this place online with low priced parts.. I came up with a total of $142.05 for the main parts ( piston kit, complete gasket kit , air filter, spark plug, and throttle cable) and about $208.00 for all that and a clutch, battery, and oil seals. I dont think that is bad, seeing i planned on 123.00 for the piston kit, top end gaskets, and air filter... here is the link. http://www.psep.biz/store/atv.htm .. has anyone else dealt with them?? if so how are they?

Never dealt with them, but for new parts, that looks like a good price. See what their return/customer satisfaction policy is, or call and see if they have any tech support/advice. You can often tell a lot by a place by just calling.

I plan on tearing it apart.. When you pull on the start rope, the motor still turns over, and my neighbor said that was a good sign..( he is a mechanic and works on allot of my stuff, and I got my trike from him) ... I just wanted to make a parts tally for what I know it needs. Thanks for the input Smokey, Im glad to hear they are good because this is the lowest price for the parts i need so far..

Hey does anybody have a clymer or a regular manual for these quads that they might be able to scan and email to me? I am in need of one. The bayous are basicaly the same quad over the years, making only small changes. If anyone can help me that would be great!
