Need some advice where to ride

Where is the best place to go that I can take some friends and family that have limited riding experience. I am thinking of someplace that has lots of groomed trails with no steep hills that you have to climb or no big rocks to try and get over. I went to the badlands last weekend and it was OK, but not what I am wanting for this group. Also it needs to be 3 wheeler friendly. Woods would be nice, and a few streams to cross would be fun. Does this kind of place exist? I have always just ridden on my farm and my first trip was last weekend to the badlands with some other friends. I am located in north east corner of Indiana, so anything in Ohio, Michigan, or Indiana, would work for me. Any and all advice would be much appreciated, thanks,........

Well, Badlands has a lot of woods trails and a stream to play in but if that's not what your looking for you should try Haspin Acres. It's got a lot of woods trails full of all different skill levels.

The site shows the tracks more but there IS a lot of trails.

Theres endless groomed trails up here in lower northern Michigan. I can get the information if your interested. Your probably looking at, at least a 3 to 4 hour drive though. My buddy just came back from there this weekend and he said the trails were so smooth, he and his group had a great time, I couldn't go, still mending a couple broken ribs but I do plan to get up there as soon as possible. He put just under 700 miles on his bike up there over the weekend. The trails lead through towns and you can stop at the gas stations, resturants, I've been before and its a great time.

Well I must of not found those areas, where were they at? We started to go down the green trail but it was full of huge rocks that was tearing up the bottom of my 350x, my girlfriend wouldn't even follow me after a while. I think it would be a lot funner with a quad, cuz most trails were rutted with quad tracks, thats why it was hard to stay on the trails. We never even attempted the orange trail, someone told me it was more challenging than the green trail, is that right? We also went down on the weekend it rained all night before we went. There was a lot of mud and water. I have never been on sand dunes before, but it was fun, I think I would like it better next time, now that I am use to them.

But most of the rest of the family would not enjoy hill climbing. I heard of Haspin, I may have to check it out next summer. Thanks for the advice.

Yes that does sound interesting. It was 4 hours drive nonstop to badlands, I do not mind the long drive if it is worth it. Can you ride 3-wheelers on these trails? and drive through town with them? or is that just for street bikes? 700 miles, wow thats a lota trails, sounds like a lot of fun. I think that is what my sisters would really enjoy. I would like more info or a name of this place, thanks................

    Steiger:

I missed the gropmed request, sorry about that. If your looking for trails like that then x.system had a good suggestion. Wisconsin has lots of trails like that too. The bad thing for you is the good ones are in northern WI. That's a hike. I do know that in WI you can ride the trails right into town and drive to gas stations, resturants and bars as long as it's on the trail system. It's kind of cool.

Here is a photo of th Badlands for you. It's kinda funny, I've been there about 6 times and I didn't know there were color goups. Shows how much I pay attention. Here you go and good luck. The upper trails are the best for what your looking for but they are not groomed.

P.S. Do you have family in Wi? I'm friends with some Steigers up here.

Yes, trikes are allowed, basically anything you want to take on the trails except trucks I believe. You can drive up to the resturants, gas stations that are along the trails, some trails cut through towns and villages and you just have to follow the rules of the trails. I believe the trails are marked to for gas and food but will find out for sure tomorrow. Heres a site that shows the different trails for orv, the one he had just been on was Lincoln Hills, close to the city or town of Luther.
    http://www.fishweb.com/recreation/orv/

    Click on atv trail maps.

These trails are not to far from silver lake if you wanted to make a day at the dunes part of your trip. Dune buggies are available to rent there if your group isn't comfortable with the trikes and quads on the dunes but if they can ride the trails I wouldn't see them having any problems riding around on the dunes if they stayed on the flat ground.

Michigan ORV tags are required at both the trails and the dunes, the same tag covers both areas or any state land.
