Running without a muffler may cause serious damage to the quad and serious injury to the rider, increased law enforcement activity, and closed riding areas by all the people you annoy, aggravate, and just plain piss off. There is nothing to be gained by removing your muffler other than enemies.

The engine is disigned with run with back pressure. Without it your carb adjustment will be off and you can run too hot and piston doesn't like that (melt/pit) Put the muffler on to be safe. There may be a baffle in your muffler you can take out if you still want loud
Anyone know of a new project machine for me around Wisconsin?

Hes exactly right. In time if you keep running it like that the piston will be gone. On a 2 stroke you dont need a muffler.

i wouldnt recommend taking it out unless you want to fudge up the engine beyond worth fixing...leave it on

It may sound cool but I doubt it will run right..Like said,,you need some back pressure..The other thing is you WILL burn a exhaust valve and That sucks..Dude If you really are hard up for some sound I have a fmf silencer off my 400ex I'll sell ya cheap..Its thrashed and its stuck on the stock header pipe but it works and you can repack it..The pipe can be taken apart so you can use your header..This one is crusty.Pm me for more info..

Here's what you can do to have the bast of both worlds. Get a White Brothers E-Series slip-on muffler, and then go get the Snuff-R-Not end cap for it. With the end cap, one turn of an Allen wrench and its straight through flow, which is very loud. BUT it still has backpressure so you wont hurt your engine. Give the end cap another turn and the muffler performs like any other....it lets the exhaust gases pass through the muffler, and out the tuning discs. It is still pretty loud...trust me.

Run it fully open when you are away from people...but when you get near a house/road/person/etc... you'd better switch over
[20:55] <waterpumper> putting a racing pipe on a Foreman is like putting a high dollar bikini on a 400 pound chick...just because it fits doesn't mean it looks cool
