May 22,23 Short Track & MX - Galion, OH

The Sunset Ramblers will be holding their second set of races in a few weeks. I plan on racing short track on May 22nd. Again, this is one of those rare chances to race flat track or MX with your three wheeler. Don't worry if you have no racing experience, just go out and have a good time. You get to show off your three wheeler as well(Trust me, you'll get lots of comments).

Hey Deathman, please do a new post with some info on the track where you get to race MX in case others may live in your area and wish to participate. We all need to support promoters who allow trikes whenever possible. Paying $15 or $20 to race and come in last place does a heck of a lot more to promote trikes than all the message board whining in the world!

We will most likely be going to Sunset Ramblers on the 22nd and 23rd. We will probably just camp this time. Hopefully Ill have my TriZ parts by then so I can flat track and MX it on both days. If not Ill just run the quad. Ill check with Trike next week, but he usally goes there whenever possible and camps, so he will probably be there.

They had only one trike flat tracker last time, and he took 2nd in his class on a 350X. The way the classes are setup, the 350x has a big advantage in its class, running aginst 300ex, 250x, and Mojaves, as they are considered "small bore" while 250 2 strokes are considered "big bore" and in a different class.

I would rather like to race my 350X, but I only have storage for one of my three wheelers right now. I totally agree about a 350X having a good advantage in that particular class(most potent engine). Hopefully there will be at least three trikes to have our own class for short track. I'll be on the R again.

How far from Buffalo is Galion OH? i am picking up my tecate this weekend am would love to race it somewhere. its an old flat tracker so it would probably work pretty good. I know i wont have it ready for the 22nd, but maybe i could make it down for the next race. plus, i have to buy some new gear to match the new trike. thanks for the info

Your probably looking at about 5 hours drive from Buffalo. The good parts is that they have camping there, but its still a long drive for not a lot of riding time. You can get directions and driving times from yahoo maps or mapquest.

Geez, I feel pretty lucky. I only live 10 minutes from there.
I used to race MX over there on my '85 250R back in the early ninetys. Seems like they've always let Trikes race. I never had any trouble being competetive.
I have a couple funny stories about racing over there, I'll have to save those for the campfire at TF'04....Take to long to type them out here.
I won't race MX anymore, but I might try my hand at Shorttrack when I get a 350x bought. Somehow I doubt my 200x would keep up hauling my 250 lb. ass around.

Sounds good. I'm only going run the short track on Saturday. Maybe some other time, I'll try the MX again.

I'm not quite sure, is it better to widen the axle for flat track racing? The 250R has the wheel spacers and I was wondering if wider is better.

In both MX and Short Track racing WIDER is better!! They have made the track more of a 1/4 mile oval so faster speeds are going to be happening, there fore if you are wider it will help ALOT more with the higher speeds.

Hey Trike, Im glad youre gonna make it! I hope you get Hunter's beast running in time.

Kryton, I agree with Trike. With flat track being a smooth track, the wider the better. With MX some widening is desireable and very helpful too, but it is possible to get too wide. Its normally not a problem on the well groomed tracks, but on tracks that get rough and rutted or on muddy tracks it can begin to be counterproductive.

Hey I wanted to let you guys no,keep an eye on the sunsetramblers web site.Possibility that the races will be cancelled do to weather. I talked to the head track ref at work today and he said since the track has had no use and its all loose dirt,if he feels its not safe hes gonna shut the race down do to the conditions loose dirt and rain make. He feels it might be unsafe.I will try and keep in touch with him as best I can and like I said just check into the website for them ocassionally. This issue was concerning the mx track only from what I gathered.

CRAAAAAAAAAP!!!! I got my Z together and took it for a test drive today, too! We were all set to go!

I guess we'll look at Rally in Herrick Valley. If anybody is interested in a trail ride in Adena, Ohio, let me know. Weather is not relevant!
