Intake backfiring tends to be a lean fuel situation, or a timing issue.

my ytm200 did the exact same thing when I bought it....it sat a long time.
I tore apart the carbs, took a little piece of wire and cleaned out every part...I found some tiny pieces of gook in there. then I adjusted the air screw and voila! now she purrs like a kitten!

this is happening to my 110 - i went with a k&n air filter attatched right at the back of the carb. I had a #92 main in it and could not get it lean enough and the next size down i went #85, it started poppin out the intake..

im guessing it can backfire out the intake if it is rich or lean depending on how the engine is timed...

Lean fuel burns at a faster rate, and is also easier to ignite, Any heat left over from the combustion cycle, can ignite a leasn mix before it actually travels down into the chamber.--Leaky valves, or worn out reeds can also do the same--but check the "SIMPLE" before the "SUBLIME"
Buy American! Unless your only option is a HARLEY.

A customer walked in to my shop and Impatiently stated "My car doesnt start, Whats the problem?"I responded with a smile-"Yep that sounds like your problem alright"----

Check the simple indead, take a look at the needle in the throttle assembly that sits in the ventura. Make sure it's in the stock position for your machine, then play with it from there. I had the putters and back fires, a good cleaning and moving the needle stopped it for me.
If you can't fix it with a , its an electrical problem.

85 ATC 200s--Ratted out and not running at the moment
