Compression Lever Issue

Hello,
I have an 84 honda ATC200S.
I have the cable connected to the compression lever but when i go to pull it the lever gets stuck in the up position and doesn't close. Could this be a bad spring or cable issue? Thanks!

When it gets stuck open, check the cable to see if it's tight. if it's tight, the problem is likely in the pull start or the cable itself. If the cable isn't tight, the problem is probably internal. Tight doesn't mean that you can play a bluegrass song on it. Tight only means that there's tension on the cable.
