    Piston won't fit

    Got a 74 suzuki rv90 mini bike . bought new rings and both rings go into cylinder with just a little gap between ring ends...install them on piston with oil ring on bottom ring and I can't get it to compress enuff to allow piston sliding into jug. These are i.e. suzuki rings...any ideas. ?

    Is it the compression or oil rings that won’t enter the bore? If it’s thre oil ring, have you got it properly connected? Oil rings typically have a hook, or clip that connects the two ends together. If they aren’t connected the ring diameter will be too large to fit into the bore.

    What’s “just a little gap”? You should check and measure the gaps of your compression rings before you put them on the piston and make sure the corners of the ends have no burrs.

    Make sure the compression rings are installed correctly also , some rings are tapered or notched so make sure their installed the right side up . A lot of the small cc Suzuki motors are like that .

    I don't see any markings on the Rings and both Rings fit into the cylinder with no piston just fine piston fits in the cylinder without Rings just fine I can get the top ring into the cylinder but not the bottom ring which I believe is the oil ring..while on the piston.

    It's just not compressing enough. I would believe if the inner Oil ring was not in there it would probably work but I don't know if that would affect the oiling

    Ring end gap in cylinder is .015 and other 1 has .018 gap.

    I tell customers to give it a half dozen heat cycles , start with 5 - 10 minutes max let it cool down completely , 15 minutes , another 15 minutes , each time letting it cool down completely .
    No running it wide open and no extensive idling .
