ID:	257387 Picked up a 2 stroke Suzuki , cleaned carb and fuel pump and couldn't get it to run. So I bypassed the fuel pump and got it going but had to prime carb to get it to fire... rode it but just didn't have any power. I then hooked the fuel pump( 4 hoses ) 2 from the tank and 2 to the carb back up ant it wont run without a prime and runs worse ? any ideas ?

Are you sure the fuel pump is working?

Have you checked that it has compression?

Something that old could have a lot of things in need of repair. Unless you luck into the problem you probably have a lot of trouble shooting to do starting with compression and an pressure test for leaks. Make sure its got the correct spark plug in it and that its gaped correctly and has a blue spark. If all that checks out and the carb is properly cleaned and the fuel pump works the only other thing to check would be for an obstruction in the pipe, or exhaust port.
    It sucks to get old

    Is the tank clean?

    With the fuel pump disconnected:

Exactly what do you mean by "didn't have any power?

Did it rev up very far or did it just rev slightly higher than idle etc?

Did it have any flat spots/hesitation when you accelerated?

Did it pop or sputter/burble when accelerating?

    Did it idle properly?

Did it smoke a little or a lot or not at all?

    Did it start easily?

The rotary valve may not be timed properly.

By "fuel pump" do you mean it has a vacuum operated petcock?

If the diaphram is toast it won't suck. And that sucks

Are you sure you have the lines connected properly?

You may already know this, but if it's anything like the LT80 petcock lever up is for "prime", horizontal is "run" and down is "reserve". There is no "off". Also if you leave the lever in the up/prime position, it'll drain the fuel tank into the crankcase/exhaust.
