    Input on 1986 200x

Going to pick this jewel up tomorrow. He says that it smokes when it gets hot. I'm thinking that it would be rings but I'm no mechanic. Pros and cons? I know the '86s are 6 speed and they're a little different. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!Click image for larger version.

Depending on the price the bike looks to be in good shape. I would snatch it up even with the motor problems.

I would get it and rebuild the top end. figure about $400-$600 to do it right over what you spend on the trike.

The handling and feeling of every part of the 86/87 is superior. Way too many changes to list from the 1st generation.

    The headlight alone fetches 250$.

The 1st gens can be built to make more power but I'll take my 87 over that anyday.....

I have an 86 and 87. Excellent handling trikes. Cosmetic parts can get a little pricey ,but that one appears to be all there. Smoking or not I'd snatch it up and fix it. You won't be sorry.

I bought a 86 for $300- had a bent intake valve. It already had a wiseco piston in it come to find out. I did another jug for it since it had a couple pits in it I didnt like. Runs good has more power then my first gens on the bottom end. My 83 feels faster on the top with just a supertrapp. I need to re put exhaust on the 86 since i sold the DG off it.

The 86 is my favorite rider of all my 25 bikes lol

Well, I got it. 1000 bucks wouldn't bad I don't think. Has a small oil leak, don't know yet if it's from the head ot the right case. The tank is absolutely spotless on the inside. It's actually surprising how clean it is. It has aftermarket fenders on it, but that's no problem.

Aftermarket exhaust is probably gonna be next. Are they somewhat easy to find?

The lovely carb is probably gonna have to be replaced. It won't run unless the choke is on, and the choke won't return unless I push the small metal piece down with my finger. Is that a common problem?

The guy somewhat rigged the kicker and it won't click back in the closed position. If anyone has an extra, let me know.

Brake pedal is bent pretty bad. Probably going to need one of those too. Rear brake pads from eBay or somewhere?

Need a rear grab bar, prm possibly.

On the upside, it has 3 nearly new tires, and two aluminum wheels, may be douglas, I don't know yet. It also came with the tail light, so I'll be putting it on someday soon.

I'll upload pics later, my phone it being stubborn. Thanks for all the replies and input!!

    Chandler.

Matt, the plastic lever is there, but when I push the choke off, the metal rotating piece in the carb won't rebound.

That sounds like your missing the spring or the spring is broken/slipped on the outside of the carb. Does the choke move easily? Is there a spring on the outside of the carb?

The stock exhaust is better than the dg, unless you race. In my opinion dg gives you a smidge more power because you have to use bigger carb jets. I agree with the above post about the excessive noise of the dg. My dg 86x can be heard well from a mile away.
