    *** 1977 atc 90 custom bandito replica build ***

Hey Guys want to share an Awesome build my Brother just completed.
If you remember when I first came to 3WW I came here looking for info on 90-110's. In particular for (4) builds. My brother Judson and I were wanting to build a "Racer" and a "Duner" each. This is one of those builds.

A little history on the inspiration for the build. Johnson's ATC/Mini Truck in Santee Ca was one of the premier Customer/Performance ATC shops in SoCal back in the early days of ATC History.

Here is the Bike. It was featured in the first issue of 3 Wheeling Magazine. From the first time my brother saw it back in 1980 he was hooked.

Our family took a trip to Cali in the early 80's and stopped by the shop.

That one in the mag was owned by Donna and Bobby Prather. Donna worked at Johnson's and they also had a blue one with the same mods. I rode them at Glamis in 1982 and saw the sand drags at night. I could have picked up both of these trikes for a song when I was coming over there regularly but I was too interested in buying all the 250R's and 350X's I could find. What a nitwit.
The one in the ad was a very limited edition lowered Bandito frame with a steeper rake for flat tracking and was Jim Johnson's trike.
I will find some pictured of that night ride and post them up soon.

Definitely post pics. The frame we had on our race bike back in the day was one of those frames. It was lower and had the steeper rake. I have never seen it advertised and if I recall Jim called it a Bandito II.

Here is a pic of the bike with the lower frame.

Always wondered when all those chrome parts would show up and what the build would look like. Great build guys, can't wait for the next one!

We wanted to build them using period correct parts. Trying to build a correct representation of what you would have seen cruising the Dunes of Glamis in the early days of ATC's.

Hey Jeff - Judson Thanks You for donating the frame as well as other parts! lol

That is art. I would be afraid to ride it anywhere other than the dunes. Too dirty lol.

I need to source those tank straps too.

I'll brake the Mods down into two sections. Chassis and Motor

    We'll start with the Chassis.

At the center is the "Bandito" frame. Judson sourced it from JWheeler. It also sports 2 Position Chrome Molly Front Forks compliments of Shortline10.
The front wheel hub and axle assembly is a polished aftermarket piece. The wheels are two piece. The front tire is a stock 74-79 SP Wamulas. The rears are "Competition Cut" Goodyear Rawhide. Alot of people ran this tire. The "Competition Cut" tires were not only grooved for the sand but were also half the weight of a stock Goodyear. You can literly see the cords it is shaves so thin. Judson got these from Mr. Clean.

It has Renthol style bars with twist throttle and Grab On grips. Also has a Vintage Cross Bar Pad.
Front light is a classic Dick Cepek Off Road Light protected by a Pacific Racing light guard.
The rear hubs are held in place by Trick Trike "spinners" and the rear rack is a "Six Pack" rack from Iron Horse.

On the back half the Chain is held in place with a BAPP Chain Tensioner.
It is stopped with an aftermarket Disc Brake set up from Precision Enterprises using an Air Heart caliper.

    Now to the Paint!
The Awesome paint job was done by Bard Barnes of Boosted Brad's Chop Shop.
Brad specializes in Choppers and is well know inside the bike world. Believe me the Pic's do not do the paint on this bike justice. You have to see it in person. It looks like you could dive into it and come out the other side. lol

Very cool build, I like the trike in the background on your last pic. Looks to be another killer trike coming alive.
