This motor looks somewhat like a honda clone motor. I think i could get it pretty cheap. Any idea if itd fit my 79 atc 90? Only info i have is its a Chinese 110 and it looks like this

Cant say exactly but the motor mounts look really close to me.

If it is a 110, then the engine itself will be a bit longer; somewhere between 6-10mm?. Nothing a little boring in the frame mount holes can't handle. I have a 110 in my US90 frame which has a fixed front engine mount. Your front mount is removeable so it's even easier to modify. Getting it in is the easy part. It's things like carb mounts, electrical, exhaust set ups that will be the challenge I'm thinking.

The chinese engines are all built off the Honda 50/70 bottom end dimensions, at least all the ones I've see 110 and under. I believe that the bottom engine mount is the same, the top one requires some extra pieces of metal added to serve as extensions to reach the original hole in the frame. I may have that backwards, though.
On an interesting side note, the late Honda TRX90 engines are also built off the 70 bottom end, rather than the ATC90 engine. Weird.

I put a china 110 in a atc 70. It bolted right up. All the holes lined up perfect.

Did you use a front engine mount also? I just checked my build thread and yes the 110 is 6mm longer than a 90. I believe I may have ground a little from the rear frame so the case would clear and modified the front mount holes. Easy to do.Originally Posted by BOB MARLIN

That's a Chinese motor defintetly, bottom end is similar, but the top end parts and stuff are completely different, and that picture below the Chinese motor did that require machining and fabrication to remove the hi and lo range on the Honda ATC motor?

I would not do it.
Look around for an ATC110 engine and front engine mount. The Chinese 110 mounts are different, footpeg bolt pattern is different, wiring, inlet, exhaust, all different.
Poxy little engine bearings, cylinder, crank, clutch. Plus there is no electric starter on that motor pictured. How are you going to start it?

No front engine mount. And also no low range gear. But I did gain electric start, lights, and reverse.

Without a front engine mount the stock atc90 frame will break right at the base of were the tank meets , the motor is part of the structural integrity of the frame so the answer to your question should be very clear now LOL .

It can be done but as recommended I would fab up a front engine mount to support the 90 frame properly. I have a Honda based Chinese motor (Piranha 150cc) in my US90 that took some motor mount and front head mount fabrication to install. However it won't be exactly the same as yours as I'm running a Dickson Designs Sprint tube chassis vs the stock stamped 90 frame. The head mount was made from a block of aluminum and replaces the motors end plate, then mounts to the Frame with some custom aluminum side plates that sandwich the motor plate.
For starting I'm simply using a Honda 70 pull start assembly and a billet Spangler's flywheel cage mounted to the stock Piranha flywheel and a crank case adapter plate. Easy to pull start the 150cc with the right technique.
It definately can be done but I probably would waste my time with a 110cc motor but rather something bigger to make the work worthwhile.
