My old foreman had a toggle switch cause the key broke off in it and i didn't wana spend money on it. I had my neighbor rig me a toggle switch under the gas tank, really cool feature . I'll talk to him and see if i can get you a schematic or directions or something. I think the wiring for the key should be the same. I'll contact you with what i get from him.

Clip the 2 wires coming out of the switch, and solder them together. Unless there are more wires or something .

I had this same problem with my 83 200, I cut all 4 wires going to the ignition, and the bike ran. In order to get the headlight to work, I had to connect the red wire to the red/yellow wire. It should work fine then.

If you touch the other 2 wires together (green and black) the bike shuts off.

all you have to do is unplug the kill switch or key switch and the bike will run. i had to do this to get my trike to run. as stated before, if you attach the black/white wire and the green wire it kills the trike. but if you just unplug the key it will run

    key

the easiest solution is to remove the ign. switch, take it to honda dealer and they will cut you a key for it and also furnish you with the code for the key should you ever have to replace it again. hope this helps. l had to do that with my 85' Big Red and it was easy as it could be.

yup, just take the time and pull the ignition out and take it to honda. It is worth it. I got 2 keys for 7 bucks. Not bad cause they had the keys on hand.

    WAIT DO NOT CUT ANYTHING!!!!!
yes you can buy one for around 20 bucks...
i had one that i didn't get a key when i bought it.
i removed the ignition from the dash.
you see the 2 little clip things on the side?(kind of like a latch that would hold plugs together)

lift them away from the body of the ignition and remove the keyed/tumbler part of ign.
you can now use a screwdriver to operate your ign. switch.(the inside will turn around and around)
at least untill you buy a new switch anyway.
1982 250r it will run again, new rings, razors, stator!!!(UGLY)
1985 200x runs on race fuel or alky ONLY!

I just bought an 85 Big red 250 es. The guy lost the key so he hot wired it. I'd rather not keep kick starting it. He pulled out the key assembly and with it the connection to the wires. It looks like there is one large connector on the key assembly thats the typical pinch and then there may have been some wires soddered on it? Maybe I can get the key at a dealership but it it tough to figure out there the wires connect?
Sorry dark out right now so i can't go find the wires.

    Yep

there should be some numbers on the key switch assembly. copy those down and take them to your local Honda dealer to get a replacement key for your particular ignition (order up 2 of them is my recommendation)
About the wiring hack job, lord only knows how it was done.
Either show us pics (hopefully not please) or get into the forums Honda manual complete with wiring diagrams and go one wire at a time.
