Original #63 SELVYS 200R Barn Find

After over 25 years the Team Selvy #63 has come out of storage. This is the 1st 200R Rob Selvy built from the (then) all new '85 Honda ATC 250R. This bike was piloted by the hired gun, Freddie Conover for 2 seasons and many wins. After the two year run Rob sold this bike to Brandon Homme, who campaigned it for several years. A thrown chain in '89 and subsequent case damage parked the bike until this past Monday (4/6/15). Brandon was an accomplished privateer racer and also had many wins aboard this special 200R.
Brandon had to fumigate this little yard barn with bug bombs to kill the army of Black Widow spiders that called this 200R home.

Rob built this 1st 200R with support from factory Honda, I;ll let the bike and Rob speak for that. Rob worked with Honda as he developed his destroked 200cc machine. Honda supliesd him many parts, some special works pieces. For example, the unique short track (short course) kit is a factory team prototype from before the Hondaline public offered kit became available in later '85. These works factory short track kits were seen on the team racer's bikes as well during the early '85 season. The first 2 pictures below pictures are of Mart Heart's and his similarly equipped machine. The tank is set farther back on the bike and has a slightly tighter turn angle than even the public offered Hondaline ST kit. These prototypes also use a CR similar style cap that is specific to the ATC specific tank. The bottom picture is a Selvys ad featuring the #63 from the right side.

Yes, as pointed out already above, the bike has special suspensions for different tracks. The forks on it currently are the lowered forks. Also a shortened rear shock. The front Tri Trak Hoosier is pretty well shot, but might be a display tire if handled with care, and tubed,...?? The rears shoes are 903 factory team tires and can be seen to have the tell tale side wall hash marks, identifying tire compound not offered to the public. Note the old school TRIKE brand wheels. I haven't had the opportunity to personally see the bike yet, but many thanks to Rob Selvy and Brandon Homme for the many pictures. Rob took a short video as they walked into the little shed for the fist time picking it up. More info pics and the video can be seen at my fb page. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008672913876

Brandon Homme is a fun, great guy with a lot of cool stories. He's in the processes of digging out more pictures, video and memorabilia. He had a great ATV privateer campaign with much success starting early, and with great equipment. Here are a few of his older tikes. The second picture is of Brandon at the local "World of Wheels" on his Selvy prepped '82 ATC 200R. This machine is powered by an '82 CR250 destroked Selvy liquid. The radiator is hidden behind the front # plate. Talk about trick, at 12! Lucky young up and comer. Below, Brandon is seen on the #63 (run as #36 as he often did), leading his close friend, Charley Shepherd on the #126. Today Brandon runs desert races, here's his rig.

That is a piece of history there. In 86 or ? ( not sure on year ) Rob did some work on my 85 250R ATC. I still have the custom made pipe. Looking forward to the restoration of this ATC on this forum. Congratulations on your purchase.

What a gem of a find. The front forks are stock other than the dampining rods being modded (assuming rob was doing back then what he does now). The way to lower them (1985) only, is to swap the small spring locations inside the fork tube. This lowers the ride height up front. And when you jump or loft the front end the tire will only drop it original travel length. The 85's have 3 springs inside and the 86's have 2 inside. You cant drop the 86 internally in its stock form.
The trike appears to be set up for a smooth track. Also rob cuts the rear spring to lower the rear to match the front. He showed me this trick while helping him at the shop. I got to cut 3 rear shock springs. You cut them heat them at the end and bend them then grind the end flat like oem. No adjustable strut needed.Click image for larger version.
