1985 Honda atc 200X build

Here is my '85 200X. Its taken almost 3 years now to get this far. Many ups/downs trial and errors, but overall quite happy how it turned out. Can find all pictures in my albums, this just shows the basic idea.

Won't list every single thing I did. But long story short... frame is off eBay from Arizona (I live in Wisconsin lol), bought a donor 200X 3 hours north of where I live and stripped it down for parts. Which later on ended up using that frame for my auto-x so worked out there. Motor is 12:1 wisesco with web camshaft, all new bearings/trans gears in motor. And made my own extended swingarm that's about 2.5" longer.

few items I'm quite lucky was able to find:
new in package hondaline headlight guard off eBay
new in package nasa fork bracket off Ebay
+6" finishline axle
new in box 11" dwt .190" front rim
and the supertrapp. its in real nice shape too


I do have 20" turfs I plan to put on soon, want to make front fender bracket, and I can score a 250R front duckbill fender extension I'll add that.

i believe they made that to stiffen up the fork for less twist.

Thanks for input. It does sit down once someone's on it, shock mount is placed where its at to clear air box under full compression. Its the first not the last swinger I'll make mostly trial and error. Adding more mount holes is probably direction I'll go. Was partially intentional to make slightly higher for clearance in winter.

Wasn't aware that you can use '83-'84 R triple... I might have to look into that more. I like the 3rd gen fender more though. Yes plan on riding it. Actually hope to take it on its maiden voyage in 2 weeks on the 13th. Plan to do some trail riding (nothing rough). Most built for riding ice riding. Where I live can ride in either direction of river for hours each way.

I re-used the stock shock and mount. It does sit down when I'm on it, was intentional to make it higher. Mainly built it for more clearance for snow come winter. Its first one I made, won't be my last. Might end up adding more mounting holes eventually.

2nd gen R stuff bolts right on, just have to swap in a 200x stem and dermal the ID of the R's stem mouting hole a tiny bit. when I use a 250R shock on my 200x it didn't sit jacked up. I made a lower shock mount.

Ah I see, good to know. Knew the front hub/rim is the same for 2nd gen. I know there's tons of info on here on shocks and what to use/not use. Will get a few rides in first before laying it up again to modify that.

Thanks. Ya I'll pass on the Baja 1000 stuff... will leave that to the professionals lol. Want my polished front to stay polished, not sandblasted

Looks very nice. I have been putting the 85-86 250R front fender on all my stuff lately, it is a much better fender. Where do you ride? I am up by the pipeline near Mountain.
