    Father daughter PW50 project

Picked up this PW50 for a couple hundred

It runs. Not the best though
Missing an air filter and kick start is not original
Needs a choke cable aswel. But otherwise complete

Going to strip it down and clean everything up. Wiring job can be tidied up and coil wire is all taped up. Probably just replace it

While it's apart going to power wash everything and paint it. White frame and pink plastics. Might try my hand at recovering the seat too

That's all for now. My daughter is 2 and a half right now. Hopefully have this thing done by the time she's 3

I've only seen left-side kickstarts on scooters. Easier to adult-start for smaller riders, I guess. Try PW50's and PW80's for parts. I know the air boxes are very similar as well as the fenders and running gear.

Is that a plastic seat pan because you can just buy a piece of vinyl and cover the seat with it but look at some videos on youtube first. I've done 3 seats now like this and got a better fit than any pre made cover.

The info might seem scattered but ill space it out. Copy and past from other posts

Not the best pic (screenshot from a video)
But here she is on a friends PW50

Well I got the bike running better today was able to ride it around the block.

At dinner today I opened my mouth and told Hailey "you know all the yellow parts on your bike. I'm gunna buy you pink ones" her eyes lit right up and she yelled "PROMISE"
    So these are ordered http://www.ebay.com/itm/140748188943
I also went ahead and ordered a proper air filter for it http://www.ebay.com/itm/181095758517

Here's us one one of the test rides

    A video of same ride

Mods feel free to edit no helmets (frowned upon. I should know better too)

So as of right now aside from waiting I just need to replace choke cable (brothers got one for me)
And fix the rear brakes and it's basically done.

It will be getting somewhat torn down and frame painted pretty quick too

    Thanks

    Dave

    Thanks

    I placed a bid on these baby's
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/331245838929

I'll find out in the morning if I've won them

I've won the decal kit so I think the bike should end up looking pretty sharp

Not much action here. But I'll keep the build updated as it's a simple copy paste from another board

Still waiting for the parts I ordered to come in.
But found a little time to work on this beast

Started taking the handle bars and wheels off

The exhause has to come off to get rear wheel off

The items to be painted white

At this point as I said to the wife "I got a little carried away"

Soo yea at this point disassembly is basacly done.

I found 3 cracked welds that I will be fixing

Being over 30 years old I'm not surprised to find some cracked welds. Just glad I found them now

Most of the rest of the bike will be painted black. Frame. Exhaust. Motor if it needs it. Front fork lowers. I'm not sure what to do with rear shock and springs yet. But that will come.

Front forks need rebuilt aswell and I think 1 side has a broken spring.

    Anyways that's today's update

Excellent drive. Feels a little long on a couple of stretches. But lots to see

I made a little progress today
Aside from the 3 cracked welds this frame has been repaired before.

Peeled off a few wraps of electrical tape hidden under gas tank area and...

Got a little bit of the frame sanded. Go over it some more by hand and with a wire brush

Got the handle bars completely sanded and ready for paint

Tires came off the rims. I don't want over spray onto the tires. In my eyes this step needed to be done. And started at these with a wire brush. Probably sand by hand aswel

Got home and started on the exhaust a little.
    Using high temp tremclad here

    Tail pipe

    Header pipe

    I also came home to...

The air filter came in. It's a chinesse knock off. But the quality is super nice

Progress might pick up here for the next little bit aside from the weekend
Me and the wife have no kid this weekend and I've been told no working on haileys bike lol.
We are planning on going for a ride so I'm not complaining.

I tracked the plastics and they should be here in the next day or two.
Decal kit is still in Miami and not making much progress lol

    Stand by for more updates

Dident think I'd be posting progress this often but here's what happened today.

    I painted the handle bars

Got the first coats on the wheels

I welded the frame. Did a ton more with wire brush and sanding by hand. And got the first couple coats on

I've been working on this during work at breaks lately
I got home from work today to an even bigger box with my name on it

    Plastics made it
Decal kit is in canada now

I'm really liking the way the exhaust turned out. Most of it is covered by the plastics. But decided to paint it all

I sprayed the motor with degreaser and let it soak a bit. Hit it with the hose and I'm happy with how clean it was. Accept one part

I had to put at least one coat of paint on the cylinder and head. Tremclad high temp again.

That's all for now. There might be an update tomarrow. But it will probably only be the frame and wheels. Hopping to Finnish painting them tomarrow.

I also took the auto oiler off today and removed the gear. Noticeable drag turning the pump. Not required anyways. Oil tank missing ect. Planning to just run premix.

Finished painting the frame and wheels today

    Mounted the tires
I think the wheels look way better white

Got home and had a little time to do some assembly
    Installed the engine

    Handle bars. Forks. Wheels/tires installed

    Exhaust

Still has a ways to go I did the wiring. Still needs to be tied out of the way better.
Slapped the old tank on and took it for a little ride

Brake cables still need to be done. And a few other things. Waiting to put plastics on till the decals are here. Maybe tomarrow or Friday

But this build might not get an update for a few days now

    Thanks

    No updates on the bike.

But I bought her a balance bike aka stryder
So she can start to learn her balance on 2 wheels
Has sent grasped the concept yet. Lifts her feet and expects it to go lol

Got the plastics more or less installed today
    Still needs tidying up.

Still needs a few other odds and ends but it's getting there.

I was going to wait till the graphics came to put plastics on. But I got impatient lol
