    Vintage Sled Show and Ride

I participated in my first Vintage Sled Show and Ride last weekend and had a blast. My friend brought two elans for us to ride the 40km's to a warm up shack and back. Lot's of chili and hot dogs to enjoy as well as great conversation, I even got a line on a 74 ATC90 The best part, nobody was big dickin' it with 300hp motors, 200" tracks and 6" paddles (a little exeggerating), we were all happy we made it without breaking down Approx 60 machines were on display with 40 making the ride. An old sled is on the radar now for me.

    did skidoo make elan?
I remember the skidoo chalet back in the 70's
super light but we ran them around ski areas making snow so very little
    trailbreaking.
    GREAT on groomed slopes.
KaRazy they turned us loose on the mountain with those, at our age
overnight, full run of the whole mountain, making snow, dragging hoses etc.

Yes the elan was a Bombadier creation. Those little things can pull for sure, but are tippy. That would not be fun un the mountains. Im not a big guy but did i ever cramp up on it. Sat on my foot most of the way.

Vintage runs are awesome. I picked up a couple 73 scorpions. Super stinger and super stingerette. The "good" engine was a 340 which is stock for the stingerette. I went thought everything, painted tub, new bogies, rebuild clutches, new bearings everywhere, newer track. All was left was engine. Supposedly ran, but covered in oil so I thought I'd tear down and rebuild. My luck went south when crank shaft is bunged up so the flywheel can't be removed. On hold till I figure that out unfortunately I will have a new seat cover made, already have the foam. Here's a pic of what she was new.

Oh, and I'm building it for my girlfriend then, fiancé now, to drive at meets while I ride on back and drink beer.

I had old sleds when I was a kid .Got out of them when I got my first trike. But it was because of my old sled that I got into trikes lol. My bosses son got a brand new 84 250r in 83 for Christmas I was at work with my old 69 Ski-Doo and he ask if you could ride it around I said sure. After I got done work he says you want to ride my 250r I said no at first I had never riden a trike prior. He says go ahead to it for a ride you let me ride your sled.I said yeah but my sled is old your 250r is brand new.So I take it for a ride and I new right then I had to have one. I went in the next few months and bought a brand new 84 200x.The last sled I owned was a Ski-Whiz. The newest sled I owned was a 82 Moto-Ski Mirage 2 . That was a quick little sled for a 340 twin. The Ski-Whiz I had looked like this one. Click image for larger version.

You have to go, it helps whittle the winter away. And a lot of old sled guys have trikes too! Tough to break away from retro.
