    200x motor in ATC 200

I have an 82 ATC 200 with a blown top end and was wondering what I would need to drop a 200x motor in it? Would i need the 200x wire harness or will the one i have work?

why not just drop a 200x top end into it? the framing is different for the 200 than the 200x. not to mention it is not set up to support a kick start. you really would have to change a ton of things including modifying the frame.

best option is really drop in a 200x top end and call it a day.

The 200x motor should bolt right in. With the forward kick start you should be all set. When I put the 185s motor in my 83 200x frame I had to use the 200x engine mounts ,intake boot and mod the foot peg out so the shifter would clear. And I had to trim the front sprocket cover in one spot. The 185-200s front mounts are different than the 200x front mounts.

the problem is the foot brake area is different. also the intake is slightly different. he can try it, but i think he will end up hitting some road blocks. the 200x frame has more room in the engine area than the others and is more open. either way good luck to him.

Im thinking all you would have to do is buy the 200x motor mounts, and use the 185/200s intake. The 200x comes out at a different angle. The wiring may be very similar, some may be different color, and different plug ins. I have done a lot of 185/200 swaps to 200x, and its vise versa what i told you.

not to hijack this thread but my buddie just put a 85 200s motor in a 84 200x frame and we cannot get it to run. the bike had a 84 200s motor in it before with a bad trans but the top end ran beautifully. so he bought another complete 85 motor and put it in. now it wont run. is there something we are missing with the color of the wires? we reused everything from the last good running motor except the cdi and the stator. we will try swapping them too. just thought since you mentioned wire colors may match up different id ask first

Alright guys thanks for the info. I kinda figured I'd have to use the 200x motor mounts but I didn't even think about the intake not fitting. I don't want to just put a 200x head on because I have a complete 200x motor from 200x I had like 2 or 3 years ago and I would rather have the clutch anyway. I have wiring diagrams, so I'll see if I can just use the wire harness I have before buying a 200x harness.

well the entire 200x top end would bolt on, not just the head. the piston, and cylinder will work.

I plan on trying the whole motor swap here in a couple weeks when I have some time, but if that doesn't work I'll just do the top end swap like you said.
