This question gets asked two or three times a week, so I should put a sticky up, as its the same for almost anything.
Turn the screw all the way it. Screw it out about 1 1/2 turns. Its doesnt matter as long as you count. Then blip the throttle, and take note of throttle response. Let it came back down an stabilize. Turn the screw in 1/4 quarter turn. Then blip the throttle, and take note of throttle response. Let it came back down an stabilize. Repeat this cycle again and again until you notice a decrease in throttle response. Then go back to the 1 1/2 postition, and do the same thing only turning the screw OUT in 1/4 increments. When you are fished you will have a throtte response curve in your head, and know the range in number of turns for best throttle response. You set it in the middle for teh best throttle response with is usualy within 1 turn of your original starting point of 1 1/2. If your manual says start at 1 1/4 or 2 turns, thats fine too, although it will not make any difference where you will end up at.
The method I've learned from Tim's is different so I'll just give mine.
Start the engine, ride it for a few minutes to get it to normal operating temperature. Rev the engine up to about 2,000 RPM. Have a screwdriver handy and screw your screw all the way in. Start turning it out and keep track of how many turns you pull it out. Between 1 1/4 to 2 1/4 turns it should reach a peak RPM(where it revs the highest) and any other way you turn it RPM's will go down. That's how I set mine. If it maxes RPM's BELOW 1 1/4 turns, that means your running rich on the pilot, if you;ve pulled it out more than 2 1/4 turns on peak RPM, then your lean on the pilot. I think...lol. aI may have that backwards. Good luck
