    tires and tubes?

I have an 87 es with ok LOOKing tires but invisible cracks.

Hard to find that size and not really cheap but neighbor says he can get tubes for 15bucks.

I pirateered tires, generic knobbies with a flatter profile and I like the stability as the es oem tires are kinda round bottomed.

    any thoughts?

Get tubes with threaded stems and nuts so you can tighten them to the rim. The rubber coated stems pull through the rim holes too easily at the low pressures that we run

I would tube them and get some life out of them until you find a good deal on some new tires or can afford a better set, etc. I have run tubes for years and years in ATC's and ATV's, never a problem. If i got a nail through a tire without a tube i would still have to pull it apart to put a patch on the inside and fix it the right way instead of a leaky temp plug in it, so there really is no difference in having to take it apart to patch a tube as well.

Tubes suk! And a Honda tech told me to get threaded stems but do not lock them down. The tire can spin and rip off the stem. He told me just to straighten the stems out before a ride. Regardless, I never run tubes......

yes this is very true. That's why all motocross bikes have two valves so the tube cant spin inside the tire. Tubes are garbage Imo..

I have a hard time getting the tires off of the rims because the beads seem to have hardened, but the sidewalls of our low pressure tires are still too soft to get much bite in a bead breaker. I have heard of people setting a long board across the sidewall and then driving on it, but that seems about as safe as squirting lighter fluid in the valveless stem of a tubeless tire and lighting it off to set the bead.

Tubes are perfectly fine for smaller machines, but questionable on the higher HP 350x and 250R. I have run tubes for years in 200x's, and not had one problem yet. I ran a tube in my 350x, and it spun the tire and ripped the tube, but this was in a crash when I let my brother ride it... Now I have holeshots on the 350, and they both have tubes, as the tires were once ice racing tires, and were near new tread. I took out the studs, and haven't had a problem with the tubes yet, and have rode it pretty hard at times. I would be willing to bet a tube would be fine in a Big Red, and I would try it at 15 dollars. As stated above, get the steel threaded valve stem tubes for sure.

Thats called a TR6 Valvestem, the threaded one. I have them in all three tires of my 200ES. My 90 has tubes in all three tires also. Rather deal with fixing a tube sometime then having to deal with a flat tire.

What's with all the tube hatred? Tubes are great, can be bought real cheap. Good for smaller atv's, and 4x4's IMO. Also good for front tires. I have one in the front tire of my R because I studded the tire in the winter. Aslong as the tires are baloony, tubes will be fine in there. Just make sure to get the threaded stem.

I was given a set of razrs that were on a quad and the guy tore a hole in the sidewall on one tire hitting a railroad track. He only had them on a month.I put a tube in the one with a hole and its still going after 6 years and they have been run on two of my 250rs and my auto x.Im using the tube with the rubber valve stem .I put a small hoe clamp on it.

I would certainly think there would be zero issues with a tube in the front tire. I guess folks could debate over rear tires forever.
