83 185s with Offroad LED Bar light

I have an 83 185s that has only the AC lighting coil system (no battery). And I want to put an offroad led bar light on it for the headlight because the stock headlights are just not bright enough for me. In the service manual it says the 185s has 45w going to the headlight and 5w to the taillight. Now the OR LED Bar light has a power consumption of 30w and an input voltage of 9-32v. Will I have to use a regulator for this setup and is there enough power in the system to run this light and it function normally?

Your main problem is that you have AC current coming from your trike, while the light bar requires DC. For this to work, you will need an in line rectifier to convert the current. After that, you should be good.
If I can restore this piece of junk, anything is possible.

Ok so I looked and cannot find just a rectifier they are all regulator rectifier and those require a battery. So if I go that way what all will I need to add a battery to the system. Ofcourse I know a battery and a tray for a battery and a reg rectifier is there anything else?

It can be done I just need to know how to wire it up and what is needed.

This is easily done, be there done that. You don't "need" a battery but you will have lighting fluctuations if you don't have one. The battery acts like a filter, when the voltage drops with the RPM the battery keeps the light at normal brightness, think of your AC lighting now, how it brightens when you rev up the motor. The LED light will do the same thing but will also have an annoying flicker because the DC wouldn't be filtered without a battery or a large capacitor inline.

All you need is a basic regulator/rectifier, you can buy a universal one off ebay or from any ATV/Motorcycle shop. It's a basic hookup four wires. On the 185 you have a green and yellow wire from the alternator/stator output, those go to the two AC wires on the regulator/rectifier, the output has a negative that goes to the frame and battery negative if you add a battery and a positive that you fuse and connect to the battery positive and light switch.

The way i did it on a 185 was tap the regulater/rectifier input to the Yellow and Green wires at the stator then ground the output negative to the frame and connect the positive to the Yellow wire on the headlight switch. The taillight still runs on AC and the headlight runs on DC. If you want to add a battery you just run the output to the battery and then run from there to the headlight switch. Easy peasy...

Example of a basic four wire regulator.

I have a battery from my 250es with the battery box to use. Does anybody know how many watts the stock lighting coil puts out on a 185s?

According to the service manual its 50w at 5,000 RPM. Generally a good rule of thumb is around 4 amps.
