Angry Road registering Tri-Z in Uk

Just a quick question? Has anybody on the forum been able to road reg their 3 Wheeler in the UK? I have actually seen a similar Tri z to mine for sale on eBay & piston heads that was road reg'd in fact there is vids on YouTube of it!

Pretty disappointed with the reply I just got from Yamaha UK

For the Attention of Mr Richard Jones.

    Thank you for your enquiry.

We do however regret to advise that we are unable to provide any information with regard to the model YTZ250 which may be used for the purposes of registering any such vehicle for use on public roads.

Naturally , we are sorry that in the circumstances our response must inevitably be disappointing to you but nevertheless trust that our comments have clarified our position in respect of this particular model.

    Best regards,

Thanks for the reply but although I've registered on there, whenever I log on it doesn't let me select any of the forum and says there is an error? I tried to email the administrator too and it just bounced??

this is a post on clubatc

http://www.clubatc.co.uk/forums/inde...oad+legalheres what ive found on different websites and forums

you will need to ring the DVLA ad ask for a v55 for and the will post it to you, it will come in to parts, the V55/4 is for registering an imported vehicle and the v55/5 an application for first license of a vehicle, you will need the V55/5 and you fill it in with the make, model, cc etc and you will put it down as a motorcycle and under wheelplan you hall put 3 wheel.

if you atc/ tri-z etc is over 10 years old (which most are) then it is really worth while getting a dating cert or a cert of newness as it will save you £105 taking it for an msva test as vehicles that are over 10 years old are exempt from SVA & MSVA tests. a dating letter or cert of newness can cost anything from £15-£50, i know it costs £27.50 from honda. when applying for either you will need to supply frame and engine numbers

if your trike is under 10 years old then you will have to take it for an MSVA test which will cost £105 for 3 wheelers, this is to confirm that it is built to E.U standards etc..

you will now need to take your trike for an M.O.T, they will do this on the frame numbers, all you will need for it to pass is a horn, red reflector on the rear & road legal tires obviously it must be road worth as in no bad oil leaks, bad bearings etc, if you plan to M.O.T it with lights fitted the you must have a headlight with high and low beam, brake light operated both hand and foot levers & number plate light, you do not need indicators fitted for it to pass an M.O.T although they are a legal requirement unless you use your arms

now heres the tricky part, you will need to get insurance for the trike on the frame/ vin numbers, a few company's offer this like adrian flux, rampdale, carole nash etc but they will only do it for a short period of time, carole nash will provide it for 2 weeks and rampdale will provide it for 3 or 4 weeks.

now go to your local DVLA with your paperwork including v55 form, m.o.t cert, insurance documents & 2 forms of i'd, and you pay them the first registration fee of £96 (i think!) which includes your first years road tax and if all goes well they will tell you your registration number and give you your tax disc, although they may ask you to provide the bike for inspection, where they check the ground clearance & seat height and will not give you your registration number and tax disc till then...

then ou just ring your insurance and inform them of the registration number, thats it!

Nice one KTMcrasher, I'll go back to Yam UK and ask for a dating cert and try and go about it that way as they where un prepared to offer me a cert of newness!

To be honest my Tri Z isn't gonna be ready for a while as its only now in the powder shop.
