What's the purpose of a case saver?

So I have a 350x I hear a lot of talk about case savers. I don't even know if my 350x has one or what they do? I just wanna know what the purpose of them are. I would like more of an answer than they save cases..
I'm new and this is probably a dumb question...

if and when you break a chain or throw one its supposed to prevent it from chewing a hole in the case.

They are there to proect the cases right in front of the front sprocket. It sucks when you dont have them there and put a stone through your case! Believe me I speak from experience! Just now replacing the side cover and repairing the case after doing this at trikefest. If it happens to you be prepared to spend about $500 to fix it complete correct, or at least $200 to do it the way I am. Spend the the $30 and put one on if you dont have one already: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATC-case-sav...f60d6a&vxp=mtr It is also available in our store: http://shop.3wheelerworld.com/produc...p?productid=48
This is made by a member on here, and I have one going on my machine tonight.

To determine if you machine has one, take off the sprocket cover, and see if there is something that looks like what I posted above is in there, if it isnt, order one.

Ok that was a joke about the 250sx being a shaft drive . . . But yea it is very Imporntant I had to replace my casing because my brother removed the case saver and instead or tightening the chain a little being in a rush rode doubles and had the chain jump and destroy the case . . A huge mess instead of just straightening the saver. A little and tightening the chain properly. . But never the less cost me 200 for a set of cases and the down time to do the repair plus gaskets plus not talking to my bro for a month and also him breaking up with the girlfriend over me and him fighting cause she was the one that rushed him in to riding it instead of fixing it properly . . So lesson is a case saver will save u a lot of aggravation and money but maybe can b good in some cases cause that girl was a and had to go but still I'd rather had kept the money

We have a case saver on the front and rear of my gf's 87 250sx.

I still need one for my 86 250r, it has one of the holes for the case saver mount jacked up from the chain jumping. Cases are expensive

They protect the cases on a Honda which will inevitably habitually throw the chain into the poorly designed clutch shaft that sticks out in its path. A swingarm chain guide is money equally well spent, but having both is the best insurance.

On a Yamaha they serve no functional purpose, but they look pretty, and buying them helps out those who make and sell them.

Well, I can tell you if your case doesn't break on the Z....It's gonna look like TrailPro by the time you come to a dragging holt. IMO it's a bit of insurance to contain the wad of chain ripping toward your motor at case snapping speed.

    ^^^^ JB saves another...send them a pic, might get a free tube!^^^^
