    Tecate stator: rick's electrics or Ricky Stator?

    I am wondering which will be the better way to go on my Tecate build. Rick's Electric's :

    http://www.ricksmotorsportelectrics....QyNTBUZWNhdGU=

    or Ricky Stator:

    http://www.rickystator.com/catalog/k...tor-p-154.html

    Both are the same price and have the same output for the lighting coil. I have heard that Ricky Stator's have had a few factory duds lately. So which would you recommend?

    I have a Ricky stator in one bike and have been running it for about 2 years with no issues. but I also have a stock system that jeswinehart epoxied the flywheel on and have not had an issue with it either. A kx250 ignition will also work and seems to make it rev a little faster in my opinion, but no lights.

    Rick's and Ricky's are two completely different unrelated shops.

    I have no experience with Rick's.

    Ricky's rewound a 185s lighting coil for me back in the 80s - they've been around a long time. I have not bought anything from then recently.

    I had a brand new Rick's stator in my R..I got 2 years from it and it just crapped out on the trail with no warning what so ever.

    I ran a Ricky stator in a Banshee for about 6 months. It advanced my timing too much, made it run hot, and the lights were abnormally dim at idle..even for a Banshee..
    Took both brands out and went back to stock..take that for what you will.
    Unfortunatelty for you T3 guys, that is all you have. I have Heard that Ricky's will stand behind their product though, when there have been problems.
    Here is where my long useless list of stuff nobody cares about should go...

    My $.02 is that I have had Ricky Stator in my '85 ATC 250R and my '89 Banshee. Both 200w for big lights and ran them for years with no problems. That was many years ago so can't speak to their quality now. Can say that last year I put a Moose Racing 250w stator in my '03 Banshee. It runs just fine but at idle my 2-50w lights might as well be candles. Doesn't run the larger lights nearly as well as the Ricky Stator did in my '89.

    I have heard WAY too much crap about Ricky crappers. I'd never want one.

    Crap:

    The Tri-Z fuel pumps die as well as the foot peg mounts; And the kickstarter breaks the case.

    The Tecate has an ignition system like a lighter out of gas.

    The Honda just runs and runs except the Friday engineered 200X internal kickstarter gears

    It really doesn't matter what breaks or how it run's if you can't find it! You will never live that one down

    Acording to my research these are the same as all KXT250:

    New Moose Electrex Ignition Source and Pulser Coils (set of 2) that will fit:

    * 81-88 KX80, KX100, KX250
    * 86-89 KX500
    * 90-91 YZ125
    * Set of coils that replaces original set of coils on base plate.

    Item # M6882002M0945

    RM Stator Inc also states these are the same as above:

    Yamaha YZ80 ignition stator coils, 85-00
    Part # *RMRSC11/51
    86 T3
    84 T3
    86 KX250

    When I bought my Tecate the stator was damaged and the flywheel was missing. I bought the Ricky flywheel and their ignition winding only- not the whole stator. I soldered the Ricky ignition winding into the stock stator. That was 4 years ago and I haven't had a problem. The stator on my brothers Tecate also failed and he soldered in the Ricky ignition winding as well. This was 8 years ago, no problems.

    I put a Ricky standard output stator and regulator in my R 2 years ago and have had no problems whatsoever. Only products other than a flywheel puller I have bought so far and I am satisfied.

    That's my experience with them FWIW.

    Never tried any Rick's products.

    I bought a whole new Ricky Setup for my Tecate and after about 30 minutes of riding we were doing a speed test on my street to see how fast she would go. Had her over 70mph and she just quit. I couldnt figure it for the life of me. Finally I took the stator cover off and the screws in the stator had backed out and the thing exploded apart in my engine. Lucky no major damage. They have great customer service. But when things like this happen you better. Called them, talked and they sent a new one. I had asked to make sure screws were loc tighted in. Got the new one and the screws were loose. Had to do that myself. I guess with Ricky its a crap shoot. Just be sure to go over it before you put it in your trike.
