big red 250 top speed? and differences between trx 250 and big red

my big red seems to start working itself pretty hard at 40 or so mph. seems like i only get to give it quarter throttle in any gear if i dont wanna over rev it, is that normal? i know it aint a speed demon but i feel like it should go 45 without a sweat. and i was also curious if the trx 250 and big red share the same tranny and engine, rear end, carb and such.

what size tires are you running?? does it sound like like it's slipping or just overrevving?

if you are talking about a 86-87 trx250, yes these two machines are the same..

^^ Agreed,,slipping clutch/clutches. And assuming your BR is 85,,there are MANY small differences throughout the entire driveline. From the starter and gears, oil pump, tranny right back thru the diff. But replaced as a unit, they mostly work together. The 85's have a 3/16 lip around the diff housing, left side, the newer ones are flush, both hubs are different, swingarms are different... My neighbors 86 TRX flat layed it on my Big Red,,I had probably 50? lbs on him. But there is def a gearing difference ! I'm assuming he's putting a whooping on your BR ? lol

my big red is a 86, and this fourtrax 250 is also a 86, i just purchased it today(the quad) after getting responses on this thread, the fourtrax is said to have had a shaved head, but if it was i honestly barely feel a difference, maybe 2hp. but anyways the trx is a bit quicker, i was driving it home and as soon as i got in the drive way the front left tire rolls ahead of me (new three wheeler yay ).... bearings were shot. talk about good luck could of been a nasty wreck on the trails. but thank you all for the info.

86 to 86 are virtually the same right back through. Those quads will do that !!
