    650x? Anyone tried this?

    http://visalia.craigslist.org/mcy/2991370076.html

    In case link goes down:

This 1985 honda 350X has been highly modified and cutomized into a 650x. A 2007 xr650l engine and trans has been transplanted into this beast.

    Worth the time and efforts?

I built one with an XR600. My only advice is to keep it as close to a three wheeler as possible. Due to the size of the engine I had to use the bike frame and the geometry wasn't ideal. It could still be ridden fast, just was work to do it. I ended up selling it to a guy around here and then built my Ban-Z (banshee powered Tri-Z). It's gonna be for sale again soon cause I want another four stroke...

That reminds me of a surprise hill race out at Glamis one time. My brother and I lined up to hillrace one of the bigger hills (The Wall, I think), and a 350X lined up alongside of us. Neither one of us paid any attention, as we had never any 350X that could touch our built 250Rs on the hills, especially the big hills. Well, we launched, and damned if the guy didn't beat us both over the top by a full bike length! We were astounded, figured that we both just got a bad start (but even then we should have been able to smoke him)! Came back down, lined up again, and this time paid alot more attention to him and our start. Second run, we both beat him, but only by about 1 1/2 bike lengths. Went back down to the bottom, still shaking our heads, and went over to where he parked...turned out it was an XR600 motor! Super clean conversion, you could hardly tell it from a 350X!

This is my trike. There are many like it but this one is mine. My trike is my best friend, and it is my life. I must master it as I must master myself. My trike without me is useless. Without my trike, I am useless. I must ride my trike true. My trike and I know that what counts is not the amount of miles we ride, but the time we ride together. My trike is human in it's own ways, therefore I will learn it as my brother. I will learn it's weaknesses, it's strengths, it's parts, and it's soul.

I turned a 02 xr650 into a trike, and it turned out nice, but that motor is a big motor and doesn't make the power you would think, its kind of a dog, My 450s will blow the tires off it, just my .02

I like that a lot. If it was closer I'd almost try to make an offer on it. Another I'd ilke to have a is an ATC400EX. The ATC450R's are nice and I'd love one other than the fact I don't feel like changing the crankshaft once per year. lol.

Thats been my experience with the "L" bikes as well. In my opinion its because of the detuning to meet emission and noise standards for the street. I think a cam, pipe and open air box with jetting would make a HUGE difference.
